Default Firewire chipset question

I'm pretty sure this has been posted before and I apologize, but I can't find it using the search and looking back through previous threads. But I have a VIA firewire port on my PC that I now know isn't compatible. From what I have read I need a TI chipset firewire port for my 003 to stop having errors and freezing up. But google-ing TI chipset firewire doesn't bring up a whole lot of helpful info for purchasing a pci card. Does anyone know a good firewire card I can add that will eliminate the crashing on my system?

Here's a couple: http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/self...firewire+cards
and most of the Siig cards use a TI chipset(at least 2 of them that I have bought in the last 2 years).

What constitutes an Avid Editing system? NLE (Video). Do those FireWire cards qualify for audio?

Do you have errors with your actual firewire connection or you want to avoid problems if you upgrade your setup? Test your hardware before you buy something new. Not all VIA chipsets have problems.

Later edit: I was reading your post in a hurry. You have digi 003. Usually the chipset type is not listed in specifications of products. When you install the hardware you can google the "vendor instance id". For TI chipset is "VEN_104C". I hope it helps.

FWIW, the VIA firewire on my new Asus p67 mobo will not even see the 003(regardless of which driver I choose). The Siig card that filosofem mentioned is the one I bought. Its working fine(and is PCIe).
