Yes.. speed is derived by the word clock/sample rate.

To synchronize requires 2 components.. location and speed... MTC for location, and word clock (in LE derived via the ADAT or SPDIF input) for speed.

So, is the word clock & sample rate transmitted through MIDI??? This is my setup...

MPC2K MIDI OUT->Keyboard MIDI IN-> Keyboard MIDI THRU-> PTLE MIDI IN.

The MPC is transmitting MTC to PTLE... PTLE responds by following along.

Does it matter what tempo the MPC2K is set to when connected to PTLE???

No.. MIDI just sends MIDI data - note information type stuff.. and location information if you're talking MTC. You'd want to take an SPDIF output from your MPC and feed that into your Digi hardware and set Pro Tools to clock off the SPDIF input. You'd also want to make sure that the MPC's sample rate matches the sample rate of the Pro Tools session before you begin. The Pro Tools tempo and the MPC tempo.. even when you set them to the same value will not match due to the different algorithms they each use and rounding.. but you can use Identify Beat after you transfer into Pro Tools to define the tempo. For the transfer.. it doesn't matter what the tempos are set at.

Oh yes.. and the first bar of the transfer usually drops the first beat when you transfer from MPC to Pro Tools.. so add a count off bar at the top of your MPC song.

Okay - I get it now, but what if your sequencer doesn't have a SPdif output????

Also, in my situtation, I have SPdif IN of the 001 connected to my CD player SPDIF OUT. Recording from the SPDIF IN on the 001 is a pain, because it crashes PTLE sometimes. I have heard/read about problems with the SPDIF IN on the 001, so does 001's SPDIF IN work for following wordclock info like stated before???

Thanks

Then have it chase Pro Tools using just MTC.. print the same click count off on all transfers, and later line up the regions with this click as a guide.
