Default Bluetooth Output Woes

I searched FAQ, I got a lot of hits relating to ear buds, bluetooth, and output, but none regarding this simple issue:

I cannot get ProTools to output to my ear buds. I thought it would be in settings....configure.....yada yada.

Please advise

Pro Tools wants to work with an ASIO interface that provides inputs and outputs in a single device.

What is the main interface you are using?

Your bluetooth earbuds have three main issues.

1. they won't natively support ASIO. You might be able to get around this using ASIO4ALL. If you also have an interface being used for inputs and try aggregating that with the ear buds then you are likely in a world of worse hurt with reliability and clocking performance. ASIO4ALL which you can read about online, is a work around that is best avoided...get an ASIO interface instead.

2. The tendency for the ear buds to connect/disconnect will throw Pro Tools for a loop, either when it starts it will not see the device, or if while operating then Pro Tools will want to shutdown or worse. And if this happens and even if you can get ASIO4ALL to work you need to be very careful when starting up Pro Tools to always hold down the N key and select the ASIO4ALL wrapped or aggregated headphones as the playback engine.

3. One of the common Pro Tools optimizations to improve systems reliability is to disable bluetooth... so I would again be avoiding this idea.

What you should have is a proper ASIO audio interface and a wired pair of headphones or ear buds (or even better nice IEM style earphones) connected to that interface.

This might work:
https://audre.io
It's a plugin that goes on your master fader (any fader, actually, but if you want to hear the full mix, the master fader) and sends audio out to any iOS device instead of the interface outputs. Works both directions, so it's useful for a number of things. I use it mostly to hear how mixes will translate to personal device speakers and headphones. Love it because I can make mix adjustments practically in real time (maybe 100 ms delay). Makes it super easy to make sure mixes will translate.

I haven't tried it with earbuds connected to the phone via bluetooth, but I don't know why it wouldn't work. Probably a more noticeable delay.
