Thanks for posting Pablo. I apreciate you sharing all this info.

I just purchased a Magma 4 slot Pericom chassis for my HD2 Accel (PCIx) to run on a Macbook Pro. As soon as everything arrives and is installed & working, I'll post my findings. Jill from Magma has been really helpful as well

HI Pablo, all.

Thanks for your detailed post. I have a one slot PCI Pericom Magma chassis and am running into a problem. Even though PT 7.4.1 runs fine with TDM plug-ins, the moment I insert an RTAS plug it starts popping and crackling and eventually it gives me an error I am running out of RTAS CPU power. I first saw this in a 88.2/24 session and thought it was a problem only at that resolution. I have now tried all resolutions and I always end up with the same problem. This is regardless of plug in. Any RTAS plug in will cause it. I have even reproduced this with a new session, one track, one master, different sample rates and bit rates, different plug-ins. I have cleaned directories, caches, erased preferences, etc. Repaired permissions, etc. to no avail.

Has anyone seen this while running 7.4.1 with Leopard (10.5.2) on a MacBook Pro (mine is a 2.16Ghz Core Duo, 3Gb RAM)?

BTW, trying to record at 192kHz is a nightmare, eventually useless with this setup. Gives me 10 TDM voices, but it chokes with 6 channels after a short while.

I have been waiting for a TDM portable setup for quite some time, and was hoping to finally see it working. No RTAS is a deal breaker, though. I too am looking to get a two or four slot PCI chassis, but am curious to see if others are also getting errors with RTAS plug-ins.

Don't use 10.5.2! Install 10.5.1.

Hi Oliver,

Thanks for your suggestion. Are you running 10.5.1 and not having problems with RTAS with a MacBook Pro and a Magma chassis? If so, I will downgrade to 10.5.1 or create a new partition for it.

Apparently, some that have the supported systems (10.5.1 on MacPro 8 cores) are also having problems with RTAS plugs. See the thread:

"Leopard/PT/7.4.1 issues"

Quote:
2. Quite regularly now, but randomly, even is very small sessions, whilst playing or recording, the audio will go into a weird loop of itself, playing one section (randomly) of about 5 secs of audio over and over for 3 to 4 times, playback will stop, and I get the warning window stating 'you are running out of CPU power; Remove some RTAS or increase CPU usage limit in the PB engine dialog. (-9128)'..I open the 'system usage' window, and I'm barely even registering any CPU load...I only have one or two RTAS plugs open...and yes, they are upgraded and compatible with 10.5.1/PT7.4.1. CPU usage has been increased to max in PB Engine Dialog, I am still getting the same errors/warnings. Any ideas anyone??

Thanks in advance.
This is the same error I am getting with RTAS plug ins. Anyone else having problems with Leopard, 7.4.1, and RTAS? With/without Magma chassis?

Pablo,

Have you run into any problems running RTAS plug-ins? Also, can you please post what version of the MacBook Pro were you working with when you did the tests?

Anybody else running into trouble with RTAS plug-ins in a "portable" TDM setup with the pericom Magma chassis?

today I tested:
MBP dual core 2.4GHz w/2G ram running 10.4.11, PT 7.4.cs2.
ioGear FW/USB powered hub. Ext kb & tball.
e34 Magma 2 slot Pericom. 1 Core, 1 Process, PCI.

w/20 incidence of Waves TDM Ren channel. All ran well with no problems. Core card Wave slots almost full.
Only thing I notice is as soon as the e34 is plugged in, the Menu bar clock goes away and Spotlight flashes randomly on/off on the Menu bar.

Spotlight activation key combo disabled and replaced with Quicksilver, which I prefer.
No other ills so far.
Firewire 400 drives only.
I will probably update to Leopard as per the info I have from Magma.

Next I'll try an OMF import/export and video out FW with a Canopus.

could you please check RTAS plugins instead of TDM, ideally with different buffer settings
