Default 8.0.4 Delay Comp/Automation Bug

When writing fader automation to a highlighted area, automation punches in late by the amount of delay compensation.

Not to say that it shouldn't work, but I've never used ADC until now, since I simply don't thrust it to be working correctly in a complex routing scheme of a typical big post session with lots of routings to different 5.1 and stereo busses. I've read too many complaints here on the DUC and it seems that every version there's something wrong with ADC.
On top of that it eats more DSP chips, that I prefer to use for other things. So in my templates I calculate and test out the latency of important phase related tracks with beeps and get to work.
Until now I've had one occasion where ADC helped me quickly during a session, where I routed part of a signal to UnWrap and part direct etc and I didn't have time to check out the latency delays, but it just sounded wrong. I activated ADC and all was well.
So I don't want to make a case against ADC (it should definitely work when it's there), but I'm wondering how many of you here in post actually use ADC?
I would more likely use it in a music mix with lots of different plug-ins on different tracks, but for post I have things laid out in a way that groups of tracks have the same plugin assignments etc. with time adjusters where necessary.
I'm on an 8 core Harpertown with PT 8.04 now.

Greetings,

Thierry

So keeping on subject here, Avid, Digi, or the company that will be buying all of the companies under the Avid umbrella, please fix ADC.

Hi Peter,

Could you give a step or 2 on the context of "punch" here?

Riding fader moves before a selection, into it?
Write-to-selection?
Latch prime?
etc....

Finally, you are reporting a difference between 8.0.3 and 8.0.4, yes?

Thanks,

I saw this behavior in an 8.0.4 beta too. Don't know if it was in 8.0.3.

Highlight an area, hold the fader, press play. With delay comp on, PT doesn't write at the beginning of the selection.

Peter,

I took a look at what you describe and am seeing same behavior in both 8.0.3 and 8.0.4.

1 mono audio track
2 BNR's
ADC ON
Volume auto lane exposed
Track in LAtch mode
LAtch Prime on Stop
Region selected, timeline selected, or region with pre-bondary selections made
Set fader value
Hit play
Breakpoint occurs at selection point 100% for me

Maybe I'm missing a key step, option, or pref - 'cuz Lord knows there are quite a few

?

This happens to me as well. When trying to use automation to duck a breath that I want lowered, but not removed, when ADC is on, the automation ends up ducking the dialog AFTER the breath, but not on it.

Thought I was going crazy....maybe there is a reason for this after all???

You guys are welcome to come sit behind me at my studio and watch this and other elusive bugs appear.

I know these are very old posts.... Have you guys find out how to fix these problems ?

I have exactly same problem with ProTools 9. Automation doesn't playback the way it suppose to be when delay compensation is on. (It played back delayed)
I can not mix like that. Any of those Avid people helping us ? (It's almost impossible to find the technical answer on this website. It is so complicated...)

ditto here. ProTools 9.0.6. I read the entire reference guide section on automation and there's no reference to this behavior.
I've recently started a thread on the MacTDM forum about this: http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?p...=1#post1964145
