If you're stateside you should watch for the Euro to fall down 1.09 USD or less on Monday. When it does, order some extra capsules from http://www.oktava-shop.com/ at a great price. I bought when it was $1.04 back in 2015 and saved a lot of money.

Re: Drum Overheads
I've been a fan of the 012s for many MANY years…have 3 of em and chose them often over some much higher priced/oooh-aaaah invoking 'legendary' mics that at one time occupied my mic closet. I really reach for them first when doing anything of an acoustic guitar nature; for snares I made sure I put on the -10db pad before starting.
As with all things - it really depends on what it is you are trying to capture…we've all heard what the lowly AKG D19 can do as an overhead in the right place. The swivel really is a genius piece of function.

Drum Overheads
Another genius thing is if you have Neumann 104/105 live vocal mics, the factory has said the capsules are identical to 184/185 so if you remove the grille and noise block, you effectively transform your 104/105 to 184/185
Not as pretty as 184/185 but has double functionality only thing is that you can buy a matched stereo pair of 184/185 but vocal 104/105 are considered solo mics so that option is not available Anyway, those "vocal" mics really let your ride and hats shine Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: Drum Overheads
If we are gonna go THERE...
Try an EV RE16 anyplace you might consider an SDC...or anything else. If you simply must put a mic on hi hat, this is the one.

Re: Drum Overheads
The best ride cymbal sound I ever got was from a Neumann KMS 105. An often overlooked mic.

Re: Drum Overheads
Since we've gone all over the drum mic spectrum does anyone have any thoughts on the bent SM57 (Granelli G5790) on snare and rack toms?
Interesting cymbal mic technique I read some time back - underside of a cymbal with the mic pointed up to the cymbal and run through a Leslie. Nowadays a Leslie plugin would probably be substituted. |

Re: Drum Overheads
There were DIY plans for these I tried some years ago...pffft.
The EV 308/408s with the swivel heads were much better IMO if you needed to do this, sounded better on toms anyway, and are a better bargain (I always thought, but as so many have asked over the decades, what the hell do I know?)
