Default Waves SSL Plugin very Choppy

Anyone else notice that when you open the SSL Channel plugin from Waves... that the counters in your sessions get really choppy and the session scroll starts to chop? My sessions don't stop.. but it looks like my PC is about to explode. And as soon as i close the plugin it back to normal.

I'm using PT 7.4 right now..
Athlon 4400+ x2
1gb ram
dual 80gb HDs
Radeon 9600 256mb video card.

I don't use the SSL stuff much only cause I can't dial it in as quick as I would like, but I did a little test for ya.

I put 12 of them on some tracks adding them one by one then watching the playback. My session has 18 mono tracks and 8 stereo tracks. Im in the middle of a mix so there are loads plugs everywhere. Never a lul or skip on the main meters or send meters when adding SSL Channel. Everything looks ok on my end. I am running MPowered 8.0 though. Not sure if its just an LE thing or maybe just a 7.4 thing.

Jonathanginese,

For me, the choppy video symptom has usually meant my computer was about out of horsepower.

Hmm.. well the PC isnt out of horse power.. i could have only 1 track.. and as soon as i open the UI for the plugin the counter skips numbers and meters are choppy.. and as soon as i close it everything is back to normal. and the CPU usage shows like 3% usage.

to tha]-[acksaw: Did you open the UI for the plugin to change settings?

Yep. I ran that fat session with 12 of them on tracks and I had 6 of the them open in seperate windows. Everything was as normal.

Maybe it comes down to visual processing instead of computer processing. Do you have a decent graphics card?

I have a radeon 9600 se or pro i think..

And my screen Res is 1680x1050..dual monitors. I have 2 19inch high res monitors... so i guess that if its a 9600SE with dual 1680x1050 res screens, a full mix window moving, and full editing window moving... plus a few plugins open... that the SSL would be choppy.

But with just 1 track? still seems weird

I, myself, have this same issue with the SSL plugins and also with the API stuff, too. But, I'm pretty sure that's due to the fact I uninstalled my graphics card since i found out it was what was causing non-stop DAE playback engine errors. Everything should be fine if system performance isn't being affected.

I don't know if this will help, but we have anecdotal evidence that the 'better, faster' video cards actually perform more poorly than a stock, mid-grade card. It has to do with how RAM is used - the larger the video card, the larger the RAM footprint, which could be the reason why you see this problem, but only see a low CPU usage.

I'm using PT 7.4 right now..
Athlon 4400+ x2
1gb ram
dual 80gb HDs
Radeon 9600 256mb video card.

FIRST defrag and clean disk, buy another RAM
right click on desktop>Setting Tab> Advanced>Troubleshoot> disable write combing and disable hardware acceleration

That will fix it.

BTW do have SSL Comp? IF so, when you insert it on the master fader, is it available in stereo or only multimono? After PT 8.0, I don't have stereo ssl comp....
