Default I Need Some Advice On My Upgrade

Hi all

I been away from this forum for a while

Currently i'm sitting on Pro Tools LE 8.0 , Windows XP , 32 bit system , P4 & 3 gig 4 gig DDR-1 Ram (LMaO)

But still wrote some smashing tunes painfuly And I got Digi 003 Rack Factory

So I bought the LE 8 upgrade to 9

I'm decideing to build a new PC for Pro Tools 9 , me and my friend have this constant argument Intel vs AMD cpu's , which one will work better ?

I'm planning to run Reason 5 + Record 1.5 Rewired to alot of Pro Tools Channels (24 - 32) and lots of RTAS as well

So my question is what CPU , RAM Amount, Motherboard, Graphics Card, Cooling system, 64 bit or 32 bit system?

One last crazy Q are there any motherboards to support Dual Quadcore i want this beast to be faster than jesous n Godd put together

look foward to some replies please

Your budget will be the deciding factor here. Look at the "i7 Builds" thread in the Windows/LE section as the i7 950 on an X58 motherboard is the top dog for now. Dual quads(assuming there is a compatible mobo) will cost a pretty penny and AMD systems are solid on a budget. The i7 950 seems to be the best bang for the buck, but the 980X 6 core is killer if you can afford it

The newer AMD systems are all right, just not as fast as Intel. But cost less.

ok thanxxx

i just reserched Intel i7 990X http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=52585 yeh extremley pricey but i want this PC to last me another 6 years like my P4 did.

990X & 980X have 12 mb cache - how does this affect Pro Tools 9 Performance ? is 8 gig of Ram the minimum amount to run this processor?

With a cpu in that league, I would run 12GB of triple channel DDR3(what I just installed on my i7 950 rig). That would be a monster
