Default When did PT incorporated Save AS for mixes?

Hi there,I could use some advice, I'm running a Protools HD system with PT 8 on a Intel Mac G5 and doing primarily commercial audio, voice work, not a lot of serious high demand post audio work, and was wondering what ProTools after mine is utilizing save as offline bounce out on mixes like the Microsoft version, this would help improve my time/proficiency? Was PT 11 the first versions?
My system although operates great is getting pretty outdated and I need to make some decisions on upgrades just to keep somewhat current and not
become a dinosaur sooner than need be!
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm really unclear on what you are asking Using Save As to save variations of any session is something that most of us have used since we started(I started at PT 6). I also will usually drag older versions into the Session Backups folder(where I can find them easily, but don't have to look at a long list every time I revisit a session).

Now if you meant off-line Bounce to Disk, that's another story and I don't remember which version gave us that. In any case, it was recent enough that you can't do a simple upgrade as you'll need way more than just newer OS and PT. In your case, I would consider a major move that leaves the old system alone. The only hardware that will stay functional on a newer system would be your HD IO boxes(assuming you have 192 or 96 IO?). A newer rig doesn't need to cost an arm and a leg as you could get a used Mac Pro 6,1 and a Thunderbolt HD/Native box All plugins will need updating as after PT 10, only AAX 64 will work(and Waves never converted to DSP versions).

Will an update be a pain? Absolutely. Will it be worth it? I'd say yes as you have no idea what features you are missing out on If you aren't tied to the Mac side, you can save even more with a used HP z820(I bought a 12 core for $1100) and a used HD/Native PCIe card(around $700). Check the compatibility info as OSX versions are constantly breaking Pro Tools versions

Thanks for that, yes I guess the term I needed to use was "Offline" , and it looks like it came out in PT 11, which isn't going to operate on my older system from what I'm seeing here. I've got a Mac Pro. 5.1 2010 Dual Intel Zeon connected to a D Command

Offline bounce is one of the 64bit-only features released in 11.0.0 and therefore not available for HD hardware that can only run up to PT10 which is 32bit

I have used many mac pro 4,1 and 5,1 to run pt 11, 12 and even 2020.3 in the compatible OSx’s up through Mojave. Look at the avid compatibility grid to pick the pairings. The issue is your hardware if you are not tied to third party plugins that would all cost lots to up grade (although there are many covid deals right now). Contact the companies you own and ask. Many have crazy sales.
You would ditch your hd cards....and get some other way of using an a to d and d to a.
I don’t know what versions are compatible with your controller. Thats a good avid question. I bet there is a sweet spot where you can keep the controller, move to a newer OsX and new PT software and get a firewire, Usb or Dante (my preference for future compatibility/flexibility) interface and be very happy. I’m fond of the focusrite dante ones but there are many depending on your need for IO and location.
Im upgrading a 5,1 from 4 core 2.26 to 12 core 3.47 this week for a few hundred dollars and a couple hours work.
