buffer underflow -6085 firewire device, but i have mbox 2 usb?
hey everyone!
so i have a msi x58 mobo with a core i7 windows computer with a mbox 2. i was running my pro tools 8.0 at 64 buffer seconds with a bunch of plugins for a couple of years! and everything was sooo smooth! i tried to update to 8.03 a couple times and it never worked for me. pro tools would never open. i always just stayed with 8.0 when 8.0.4 came out i tried to upgrade to that and when i would start pro tools i would get these messages out of the ordinary "dae error buffer underflowed firewire". I tried to change usb ports, update my bios, uninstall pro tools, everything! so i just went back to 8.0 and it worked ok. im tired of 8.0 and having to always close pro tools to open up another program so i bought windows 7 64 bit thinking upgrading my os would fix my problem! well its even worse! when i open pro tools no session open im at 7% already rtas system usage? i open up a session and all my meters are choppy, my system usage disk usage is at 40% and my rtas is up really high and im not even using 1/8th of the ammount of plugins i used to use when i didnt have this problem! i tried formatting my audio drive, disabling all my firewire drives in device manager! everything! why am i getting the "6085 dae buffer underflowed error please disconnect some firewire" when i am not using anything firewire? someone please help me ive searched all throughout the DUC google everywhere no one has this problem but me! thanks, nic < Computer > Model: MSI MS-7522 Workgroup: WORKGROUP Host Name: DiddyNac-PC User: Diddy Nac < Processor > Model: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz Speed: 2.8GHz Cores per Processor: 4 Unit(s) Threads per Core: 2 Unit(s) Type: Quad-Core Integrated Data Cache: 4x 32kB, Synchronous, Write-Thru, 8-way, 64 byte line size, 2 threads sharing L2 On-board Cache: 4x 256kB, ECC, Synchronous, ATC, 8-way, 64 byte line size, 2 threads sharing L3 On-board Cache: 8MB, ECC, Synchronous, ATC, 16-way, Exclusive, 64 byte line size, 8 threads sharing < Computer > Mainboard: MSI MSI X58 PLATINUM SLI(MS-7522) BIOS: AMI V3.8 05/14/2010 Bus(es): ISA X-Bus PCI PCIe IMB USB i2c/SMBus Multi-Processor (MP) Support: No Multi-Processor Advanced PIC (:Yes Total Memory: 6GB DIMM DDR3 < Chipset > Model: MSI X58 I/O Hub Front Side Bus Speed: 2x 2.4GHz (4.79GHz) < Chipset > Model: Intel Core CPU Generic Non-Core Registers Front Side Bus Speed: 2x 2.4GHz (4.79GHz) Total Memory: 6GB DIMM DDR3 Memory Bus Speed: 2x 532MHz (1GHz) < Memory Module(s) > Memory Module: OCZ OCZ3G1600LV2G 2GB DIMM DDR3 PC3-8500U DDR3-1066 (7-7-7-16 4-26-8-4) Memory Module: OCZ OCZ3G1600LV2G 2GB DIMM DDR3 PC3-8500U DDR3-1066 (7-7-7-16 4-26-8-4) Memory Module: OCZ OCZ3G1600LV2G 2GB DIMM DDR3 PC3-8500U DDR3-1066 (7-7-7-16 4-26-8-4) < Video System > Video Adapter: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series (800 SM4.1 625MHz, 512MB DDR3 2x993MHz, PCIe 2.00 x16) Video Adapter: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series (800 SM4.1 625MHz, 512MB DDR3 2x993MHz, PCIe 2.00 x16) < Graphics Processor > Adapter: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series (800SP 10C 625MHz, 512MB 993MHz) Adapter: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series (503MB 2x993MHz) < Storage Devices > WDC WD3200AAKS-75L9A0 (320GB, :298GB (C:) WDC WD5000AACS-00G8B1 (500.1GB:466GB (E:) TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S223C (SATA:N/A (D:) < Logical Storage Devices > Hard Disk (C:): 298GB (NTFS) @ WDC WD3200AAKS-75L9A0 (320GB, SATA300, 3.5", 7200rpm, NCQ, 16MB Cache) Audio (E:): 466GB (NTFS) @ WDC WD5000AACS-00G8B1 (500.1GB, SATA300, 3.5", 5400rpm, NCQ, 16MB Cache) Optical Drive (D:): N/A @ TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S223C (SATA150, DVD+- RW, CD-RW, 2MB Cache) < Peripherals > LPC Hub Controller 1: MSI LPC Interface Controller LPC Legacy Controller 1: Fintek F71882FG/F71883FG Audio Device: MSI HD Audio Controller Audio Codec: Realtek Semiconductor 888 High Definition Audio Audio Device: ATI (AMD) HD48x0 audio Audio Codec: ATI (AMD) AA01h Serial Port(s): 1 Disk Controller: MSI 4 port SATA IDE Controller Disk Controller: MSI 2 port SATA IDE Controller Disk Controller: MSI JMB36X PCIE-to-SATAII/IDE RAID Controller USB Controller 1: MSI USB UHCI Controller #4 USB Controller 2: MSI USB UHCI Controller #5 USB Controller 3: MSI USB UHCI Controller #6 USB Controller 4: MSI USB EHCI Controller #2 USB Controller 5: MSI USB UHCI Controller #1 USB Controller 6: MSI USB UHCI Controller #2 USB Controller 7: MSI USB UHCI Controller #3 USB Controller 8: MSI USB EHCI Controller #1 SMBus/i2c Controller 1: Intel 801xx/63xx SMBus < Printers and Faxes > Printer: Microsoft XPS Document Writer (600x600, Colour) Fax: Microsoft Shared Fax Driver (200x200) < Network Services > Network Adapter: Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20) Network Adapter: Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20) #2 (Ethernet, 100Mbps) < Power Management > Mains (AC) Line Status: On-Line < Operating System > Windows System: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 6.01.7600 Platform Compliance: x64 < Windows Experience Index > Current System: 5.9 Last edited by nicnac712; 07-27-2010 at 01:23 AM. Re: buffer underflow -6085 firewire device, but i have mbox 2 usb?
You REALLY should post the specs of your system. We can't even begin to help you without details.
-6085 errors can be linked to a number of incompatibilities and configuration errors (like running with a wireless network card enabled, or using the system drive to record to), but without details about your system... well...

Re: buffer underflow -6085 firewire device, but i have mbox 2 usb?
Looking at the Sandra report, something jumps out immediately:This drive that you are using for "Audio" is too slow to use for Pro Tools audio sessions. The drive needs to be at least 7200rpm. That alone could cause the error that you are getting.
