Default Problem connecting ADAT

Hey everyone. I have a Focusrite ISA428 with the digital option and a 002r. Originally, I had a bad digital card, I replaced that, and still nothing worked. I replaced the power supply and power harness to the 002. still nothing worked. Since sweetwater told me that the chances of me getting a bad optical cable is very low I didn't look into that, but decided to try. They sent me a new Monster Optical cable, while i was waiting for it to arrive, I bought a cheap HOSA cable. the Hosa cable worked. once my new MOnster cable arrived I used that one..nothing. SO I told sweetwater and they said they may have gotten a bad batch of cables, so they tested one for me then sent it out. I recieved it the otehr day. again, Nothing. Any reason why the Monster Cables won't work with my system but the crappy Hosa will?

Hi there ... Is there any chance that maybe the Monster Cables are "directional" ie have "out" and "in" ends?

Did you remove the little black rubberized coverings on the tips of the lightpipe cable? (If so, let us know so we can heckle the crap out you! )

Do you have another device you could hook up to the 002R with Monster ADAT? That way you could isolate the problem a bit more to see which one is giving you problems. Also have you checked in PT setup to make sure the optical is set for ADAT? You may also try swithing the clock from internal to ADAT and see that makes a difference. Hope this helps.

Sounds like he's already isolated the problem: the Monster cables are bad (including the "good" one that Sweetwater "tested").

If the Hosa cable worked, then the culprit is the Monster cable. Go to the Land of Broken Dreams - er, Guitar Center - and test one yourself if you must.

Do you see red light at the output of the "Monster" cable??

Do you have 2 fiberoptic cables hooked up?? IN and OUT should both be plugged in for proper sync.

BTW, there are only a hanful of fibreoptic maufacturers in the world, chances are the HOSA has the same
internal fiber as the MONSTER. The Monster gives you big fancy gold connectors, which have no effect on the
signal going through the fiberoptic. The key is the precision in which the tip is ground/polished.

I just transfered a major feature (four hours long) 4 tracks, through a pair of generic PHILIPS DVD optical cables
I purchased from FRYS ($19.95 each) using a TDIF/ADAT converter from my DA98 to my 002R. With not one dropout nor click.

the HOSA cable works with just one cable, but even if i try two monsters they do not work. and yes, there is a red light.
