How big should my audio drive partitions be?
Hi, just getting back into recording again and had a hard drive crash on me. I'm getting a new WD 250G one and am hoping someone here can tell me what the ideal partition size is for PTHD and any other useful info for setting up my audio drive.
Any info would be appreciated...and yes, I did search already. Not much there. thanks, Steve |

Re: How big should my audio drive partitions be?
As long as you defrag when necessary and use an intelligent file system (e.g., NTFS), I'm not sure you need to partition at all anymore.
And of course, always back up on a removable or offsite drive.

Re: How big should my audio drive partitions be?
If you plan to have a dual partition, I think 40Gb is enough for the System Drive (Boot) and the remaining 210Gb can be used as your Audio Drive. I think Digi recommends to have a separate Audio Drive for Session Files. Hope this helps.

Re: How big should my audio drive partitions be?
If I remember correctly, partitioning the system drive to use as a system partition and an audio drive is actually WORSE than no partition, since the OS has to access areas on one drive with two sets of protocols. And doing this does not accomplish what is required, giving the audio streaming a separate and unencumbered drive and signal line to avoid interruptions.
