core audio driver useless in PT 10.1.2

just installed PT 10.1.2 the other day.

works fine when using protools, better than 10.0.1 IMO.

but now the Core Audio drive crashes repeatedly when using anything but ProTools. In fact, just trying to start the Core Audio application causes a crash.

So Logic 9.1.7, Quicktime, iTunes, web browser etc - everything that used to run under the Core Audio driver and my old 002R interface has no sound.

seemed to ressurect for a minute after de-installing and reinstalling PT 10.1.2 and the 002R core audio patch.

What a joke. Anyone have some insight or a work around? besides reinstalling 10.0.1 which is probably what I will do just to get something done.

i am having the same problem with the 003 rack... not sure what is going on, hopefully they release an update for it in the near future

You know after hearing that you are having a problem as well, I have a feeling that this is probably mostly related to the 002 and 003 interfaces.

they are the ones that demand 100% attention of the core audio stream while protools is in use. this has always been a mess. the drivers have been poor.

They are the ones supposed to be covered by the driver update for Protools 9 - and it sort of looks like they tried to integrate that patch file directly into PT 10.1.2 and missed the mark.

I just discovered the same problem here trying to install new patches in Kontakt stand-alone. When I tried opening the Core Audio driver directly (no audio programs running) it displays the interface and immediately crashes.

This could be true... I am having no issues with Logic 9 or any other Core app

Interesting. So I am wondering what the secret is then.

What version of OSX? I am in 10.6.8.

And did you deinstall the existing Protools before installing the update?

Me as well. Cannot get the avid core app to remain open with logic. Crashes every time. Pro tools seems fine since the update luckily.

its a shame not being able to use the AAX plugins of some digi stuff, but word is they aren't any more CPU efficient, so what's the point. I don't know what other stuff was supposed to be better about 10.1.2

what interface are you using? 002?

the only person that replied with no problems so far has a Motu unit.
