Default Waves Vocal Rider = Cheating?

so this thread is for the philosophical aspect of the plugin...

i love the idea but what happens when clients are in the room for example?
do you just say... "the plugin will mix it" (??)

or for those hard core engineers from the analog days...you know..
the comments they'll say

and that sort of discussion i wanted to bring up.

Who cares what you use if it gets the job done and fast? I'm sure Pentagon didn't mind the heat seaking missiles when the concept was proposed to them.
Isn't a regular compressor "mixing it"?

I would assume that you have never used the plug. It is a time saver in some aspects, but it does not "mix". In fact, setting up the plug would confuse a client more than actually "hand writing" automation. So you are safe there.
And who cares what comments us hard core old guys make? If we have not evolved to the "new age" then most of us are not working.. or dead. BUT no matter what plugs you use, your ear should be the final say....ff

There's no such thing as 'cheating' when it comes to making records. After all, the whole record is a 'cheat', isn't it. Eg The singer didn't sing it in one take, even though that's how it sounds. He wasn't even in the same country as the rest of the band when the vocal went down. And he's double-tracked himself. Etc etc. So, whatever works works. Personally I don't think the plug-in you mention is much cop, but it may be just me.
