Signiant
I just downloaded two 12Gb sessions (including DVPal Avid mxf media) - 25GB in total from AETN UK for voicing and mixing using Signiant's Media Shuttle and the whole lot came down in 40 mins.
Blown Away would be an understatement! This is so how life should be! I have no idea about the cost of the service, but wow! (thats two wow's this week!) cheers

Re: Signiant
If people think Aspera is expensive then they shouldn't even begin to look at Signiant. Great system but ouch!

Re: Signiant
How ouchy is ouch? The website smacks of if you need to ask the price then you can't afford it.
I suspect this is a solution for corporations and not for boutique studios like me, but boy is fun to play with the big boys toys! cheers

Re: Signiant
Got a quote once for a fairly base model at I think it was £24000 but it was a few years back so memory is a little fuzzy. Great workflow implementations though, you can tie into SOAP services to do stuff like watermarking, format conversions etc based on incoming files and dropboxes etc.
Pretty snazzy and you're right super fast. C |

Re: Signiant
Hiya
your right its not cheap. It was £30k+ a few years ago and then there is the support contract on top. On the plus side its very fast (if you are connecting to a client with Signiant as well its even better:) and stable, and the API programing is a real bonus for automation. Most importantly its secure. Aspera is just as good if setup and implemented well, a lot of the biggies are starting to now move over to Aspera servers for transferring stuff around. But again, a full blown, full bandwidth Aspera your starting to get in to silly money again. Pete |

Re: Signiant
The product that Mike used is called "Media Shuttle", which is an affordable subscription based service. Signiant designed Media Shuttle to make the advanced technology in use by the big corporations available to a broader audience. The Media Shuttle system that Mike used is hosted by the History Channel. Production companies and post houses have their own Media Shuttle portals.

Re: Signiant
I did a large chunk of research with Accelerated Transfer solutions. The big three (Aspera / Signiant / File Catalyst) can be expensive. Especially if your looking at a server model with various clients transferring.
I ended up coming across a product called Expedat made by Data Expedition. For us its been great. Maximizes our lines (1Gb net and 100Mb private between offices) and it was thousands cheaper. Pricing is freely available on their website. We are constantly transferring 3-4 TBs a week with it. For a simple point to point transfer you can also look into Scayl. Haven't tried them myself but talked with the creator at NAB last year and it looked promising. Also free! cheers Kevin |

Re: Signiant
Ooh, like the look of Scayl. Thanks for that. Looks like it has the potential to be a suitable replacement for Digidelivery.

Re: Signiant
I had a call yesterday from Signiant to see how helpful they could be. Impressive.
The media shuttle service would seem to be about £200 a month for the base level service, which is not that hairy at all. I have also been emailed by Data Expedition inc who have a product called ExpeDat. I haven't had time to check this out as have been manning the faders at AETN UK - but I thought it might be of interest to this post. Carry on...
