So far I understand that S3L-X = S3L + twice the ram + Venue 4.5 software. I strongly doubt there is a higher sample rate or any change in the hardware other than different ram strips

Not really,
S3L headphone amp is real crap.
Maybe OK for live PFL but not good enough for studio use at all.

Interesting. If the S3 is going enabled as a DAW interface/control surface when not used with Venue (as stated) why wouldn't Avid upgrade S3 for higher sample rate capabilities (inputs, outputs, and headphone amp)?

I would think that SR capability would be determined by the converters themselves which are mostly in the I/O racks, so not something an upgraded surface could provide.

Avid's press release stated the S3 will become a 4X6 audio interface for Protools and other DAWs...

Yes, but this was advertised as one of the bemefits with 4.5 before. So not new for S3L-X.

Greater Protools integration would be a benefit of the Eucon update. Upgraded output path(s) would be the benefit of newer S3s... No?

I'm curious about the converter resolution and any potential hardware upgrade needed to record up to 192 in the DAW interface mode.
