Default Automation Issues

Having some automation problems:

I have instantiated a plug-in, opened the plug-in automation window and added the items I want to be able to automate. My automation window has the plug in write enabled (red).

The track is set to Write (or latch, or touch)

1) Can't write automation even with the write automation key command or menu pulldown.

I'm getting a warning that says "No automation could be written because automation recording/playback is disabled for each of the individual controls and/or automation recording is disabled in the Automation Enable window.

2) I manually wrote automation, but when I copy the regions from one place on the timeline to another, the automation settings aren't following.

I'm using PT 9 HD with a Native card on a Mac Pro.

What's going on here? What settings am I missing?

Okay...got the "Automation Follows Edit" for the issue of automation not being copied when the region is copied.

Still can't figure out why automation isn't writing without me manually making moves.

Keep digging in- I think there are some conceptual changes you need to make to adjust to Pro Tools. Enable the preference "Plug-In controls default to auto-enabled".

Those key commands and menu items do work when the transport is rolling, but they're really most useful for snapshot automation or glide automation, which is best executed when the transport is stopped.

When you're in write/touch/latch etc., PT records everything you do on your control surface (if you don't have one, buy one tomorrow) or with the mouse while the transport is rolling.

Good luck figuring it out.

Sorry for the rather basic question, but do you have the Plug-in automation enabled in the global automation settings? It's in the automation window.
