Controllers For Protools
Hello all, its HDK yet again, looking to invest in a new piece of equipment for my studio...
I ordered the digidesign 003, yesterday. and am looking to get a controller for pro tools... preferably not the control 24 cause i honestly cant afford it... i need at least 24 or 32 channels, aux controls, and "flying" powered faders. preferably something within the 1000 range. are there any off brand controllers that CAN operate within pro tools?

Re: Controllers For Protools
You will be hard pressed to find anything in the 1000 range with 24-32 channels.
It may be possible to connect 3 or 4 Behringer BCF units, but I've never tried. Nor, I think, would I want to. I've heard that while they do work, they are incredibly noisy. And that's just for one; I can't imagine 3 or 4. You may also want to consider trying to find 3 or 4 used Cm Labs Motormix units. They can definitely be used together, and I've heard nothing but praise about them from those that have them. Then there's always used Mackie Contol Universal and extenders. Here's a question for you; why do you need it? The 003 has 8 bankable faders that can be used with any tracks that you have in the session, no matter how many there are. (unless, of course, you have the 003R)

Tascam US-2400 w/a USB powered hub = 24 flying faders!

Re: Controllers For Protools
The problem I have with the Tascam(and any other cheap controller) is the lack of an LED scribble strip. You lay out 24 faders in front of you, with a 32+ track session and start banking around, and I can promise you will be lost as to which fader controls which track. I recommend a used Command8 until a better solution comes along. I work on my own 003 system and a C24 system and honestly don't feel either setup is any faster than the other(maybe I have developed bad habits)

Re: Controllers For Protools
FWIW, in my application the scribble strips aren't an issue - I have a 28" LCD monitor immediately behind the US-2400. In PT there's a 1:1 correlation between the screen and the faders.
This is at a 1920 x 1200 screen res It's sweeeeeet!
