Default MIDI Problems

My Yamaha PS-480 goes From MIDI out on the Keyboard to the MIDI in on the back of the MBOX. It was working fine but around the time I had installed 8.0.4 it had stopped working. Since then I have reinstalled PT and done a clean reinstall from the install disc without updating to 8.0.4 and MIDI still ins't working. I have done a factory reset on the keyboard as well a full PT install.

So, anyone know anything about this?

What, exactly isn't working? Does the MIDI port for the MBox show up as a MIDI I/O? Is MIDI Thru turned on?

I connect the MIDI wire from MIDI out out keyboard into MIDI in on MBox, turn on Keyboard and hit some notes but PT sees no MIDI input.

And yes MIDI Thru is checked. Where is I/O?

That depends; what kind of track are you using? Instrument or MIDI? (Instrument channel MIDI I/O is in the instrument view of the track, MIDI track is the standard I/O section of the track).

Also, is the track record armed? If not, do you have the Default Thru Instrument set for “first selected MIDI track”?

Instrument track The Input says No Input and Output is Out 1-2. I tried track with record armed and not, nothing. Where do I find the Default Thru Instrument set for “first selected MIDI track”?

You are looking at the audio I/O for the instrument track. THe MIDI I/O for instrument tracks will be in the instrument view. (top of the track in the mix window, hide/show it from the bottom left hand dropdown view selector)

IF it isn't working with the track record armed, then there must be somethign wrong with the MIDI input. Are the MBox inputs listed and selected as a MIDI Input Device? (from the menu, Setup->MIDI-Inpout Devices...)

From the Pro Tools Menu; Setup->Preferences, MIDI tab.

I'm not trying to be mean here at all, but a good read through the Pro Tools Reference Guide might help you in a lot of ways.

For the Input on my instrument track I got it set to Predefined > Digidesign Mbox2 MIDI In > All Channels... Nothing.

Followed all your other steps and came up with no results, this is frustrating.

Thanks for the help BTW

Well, yes, but only because I happened to come across this thread. See the Help Us Help You thread for info on how to contact us if you're in need of tech support and why we can't chime in on every thread.

With that said - have you tried all of the General Troubleshooting steps, especially the 'Run As Administrator' one? Please detail exactly what you have or have not tried, so we know where to start. Also, having a Sandra report would be helpful...

Is the "MIDI Mode" on the Yamaha PS-480 (are you sure it's PS-480 and not PSS-480?) set to "Keyboard Assign mode"?
