will PT 11 ever work with El Capitan?
Now the new iMac Retina 27" with i7 processor I have been waiting for was finally released and I really want to order it. But Apple support people tell me it will ONLY work with El Capitan, I can't download and install an older OS like Mavericks that will work with PT11.
So Avid will eventually support El Cap, but I am guessing I may have to buy PT12 (maybe 13?) for it to work. I really had made up my mind to stick with PT 11 for as long as possible. Any thoughts?

Work? Perhaps. Supported? Not going to happen.

Re: will PT 11 ever work with El Capitan?
So would I be better off buying a used Mac?
Another option I have is having a friend who is an IT pro build me a PC, which would be used exclusively for PT, and only be on-line for software updates and sending and receiving audio files. But I would prefer to stay Mac.

Re: will PT 11 ever work with El Capitan?
Give it a few weeks and you'll find various hacks & work arounds that will enable you to instal older versions of Mac OS, just Google "New 27' iMac and Yosemite".

You can also try made yourself installation of capitan on virtual machine such vmware or virtualbox or (better) full install at usb drive.

Re: will PT 11 ever work with El Capitan?
I've read many reports of people using PT11 with El Capitan. I haven't tried it personally but I've upgraded to El Capitan on a laptop and although there are certain OS-level changes which *might* affect ProTools's functionality I'd be very surprised if there are many surprises.

Virtual machine and real-time system such as PT sounds like a real no-no for me...

another option: have your friend build you a "hackintosh". All the performance of a Mac Pro for half the price

Re: will PT 11 ever work with El Capitan?
Thanks for the input so far, i really want to order the newest iMac ASAP.
My goal is to get a fast computer to host PT 11, (which I have owned for over a year but not had a fast enough computer to install it on) and hopefully stick with PT 11 for a long time, hopefully no need for PT 12. I see my options are: 1) Buy a refurbished i7 mac that runs older OS than El Cap. 2) Have my friend build me a "hackintosh" PC (shudder) 3) Order the new i7 iMac 27 and cross my fingers that Avid won't force me to buy PT 12 for El Cap compatibility. Or watch for hacks to obtain older OS. If I go with the new iMac I will always have the option to buy Logic Pro X for $200 and begin to move away from PT.
