Syncronize PTLE and SX 3 possible?
I´m trying to figure out how to get these progs talking.
I´ve been lucky to get SX master PT but there is no luck in the opposite. I can start and stop SX from PT but then PT wont start. Using MMC or is it possible to do via SPDIF? Please, can some one point me in the right direction. Peter |

Re: Syncronize PTLE and SX 3 possible?
You should use Midi Time Code and Spdif clock, not Midi Machine Control, which is a different thing.
I don't know how to do it in SX, but the general guidelines are to set the softwares to send/accept Midi Time Code on a selected MIDI port of your interfaces, then set the slave to accept Spdif sync at the digital in; check that sample rate and MTC frame rate are matching and put the slave online; once you start playback on the master machine the other should chase. Hope this helps L.G. |

Re: Syncronize PTLE and SX 3 possible?
It worked!!!!!!!!
But it seems like I don´t need the SPDIF connection to make it work. On the other hand it also seems like it drifts with some samples here and there. I made a recording test where the "flanger effect" occured when playing the same drumloop on different tracks and it seemed like it differd as it was playing. The options I have in the sync setup in SX is"Internal Timecode","Midi Timecode","Asio Audio Device" and "VST System link"(the last is when sync SX with Nuendo or another SX). Well, so far so good and I guess it can´t be sample accurate with Midi Timecode. Thank´s for the help, it worked right away after reading your post.I was in the wrong place and fiddeling in PT. Re: Syncronize PTLE and SX 3 possible?
Hey, glad I could help.
If you want the two systems to stay in sync with sample accuracy YOU NEED a form of clock sync; Midi Time Code is only good for the positional reference of the machine (where we are in the timeline), but you need a system to make the two machines go at the same speed (the digital clock). On top of that, Pro Tools is only triggered for start-stop and positions by Midi Time Code (I don't know if the same holds true for SX), meaning that it doesn't "chase" time code, it goes freewheel once it's been started. By making a digital connection between the two machines (be it Spdif, Word Clock, AES or ADAT) you make sure that the two stay on the same sample and thus don't drif. Try checking in the ASIO panel of SX: there should be a setting to accept digital sync, or to set it to accept external clock in some form; with Pro Tools and 002R you can only choose SPdif or ADAT for your digital connection, so you'll have to use the one format that's available on your SX interace. Hope this helps L.G. |

Re: Syncronize PTLE and SX 3 possible?
Ok,I´m with you.
I had to change to SPDIF locked on my soundcard, M-Audio Delta 1010LT. So now it should work properly.Thank´s for the support Lorenzo! Tuur, I´m running PTLE with 002r on my laptop, Acer Aspire 9504 1024 ram and the other machine is a HP desktop 2 ghz ,1024 ram with SX 3 and Halion 3. My intention is to run all virtual instruments on the desktop and record audio in PT. Peter |
