Default Going For An Imperfect Vocal

Hello,
I have a guy recording with me who wants a rough sounding vocal. Once I put his voice through an Amp Farm Bassman, but later he thought it was a little too rough. Does anyone have any ideas as to getting a less than pristine vocal with plug ins?
Thanks.

Amplitube, Lo-fi. I've used both. Lo-Fi can get you something that sounds like a recording from the 1930s with a few tweaks.

With Amplitube, you can get that distorted vocal effect that Beck, the Beastie Boys, etc. have used. Amplitube gives you lots of control.

I know plenty of really rough sounding vocalists....

You might try using some crappy mics. Perhaps setting up some S**tty mics along side your good mic and mixing in the crappy mic sound (of course, making sure the phase is correct). Maybe some cheap Radio Shack mics or computer mics. Also, For really grungy vocals, I've recorded a vocalist through one of those toy megaphones with great success. He could maybe double his part with something like that to give the track some character. Just some thoughts.

a little too rough?

mult the vocal track and send one side through the Amp Farm plug in. Leave the other side clean. Compensate for the delay and mix them back in. Too rough? - add more clean vocal. Too clean? Bring up the Amp Farm track .

Ditto. Squash to taste. Maybe high pass to taste. Blend to taste.

Thanks for the ideas friends. "Mult the vocal", meaning duplicate the vocal track, add Amp Farm to the dup and then Time Adjuster to the original clean track?
Rob, do you mean squash both or just the dup, processed vocal?
Thanks for great ideas.
Chas
