Default Re: Pro Tools SE White Noise Problems

Hey Tim,
Thx for looking into this. I run windows 7 64-bit on a lenovo w510 with all the lenovo system drivers installed. I also run Avid Media Composer 5 and I tend to think it's only when I have one or the other open at the same time, or one open then the other, because I get the crazy white noise sounds in both. But if i only open pro tools or only open media composer then I don't seem to get the problem. But sometimes even if only one is open and the other was open but is closed now, i still get the weird white noise filter sound. Let me know if any more of my specs are helpful.
thx,
Jayson

Are you guys recording audio to a seperate physical hard drive? Recording to the system drive can and will cause problems.

It's better to record to an external drive?

Its better to record to a second hard drive. Either internal or FW. Recording audio to the system drive is extremely taxing on the system

Interesting. I'll try that - see if it helps.

Question Re: Pro Tools SE White Noise Problems

I have a couple of the problems mentioned on this forum.

1. The "white noise" (happens on the instrument track with an instrument or Microphone input on from of Moblie Pre)
2. Occasional extreme distortion on playback and during record (not always hearing white noise and/or distorted sound, but during every session one or both occur) (Happens on the instrument track with an instrument or Microphone input on from of Moblie Pre)

In all instances, if I close Pro Tools SE and restart they seem to go away, temporarily. I have tried switching between Mixing and Instrument inputs with that helping only once. I always make sure that all other playback devices are not selected and that the playback for the Mobile-Pre is set as default playback and record device. Would like to invest in the full version but if this sort of shortcoming is persistant, it's tough to justify buying another version of Pro Tools when the introductory version doesn't appear to work properly.

I have a HP HPE-170t
Intel i7 860 @ 2.80GHz
12 GB DDR3 RAM
Win7 64 Bit
Pro Tools SE
M-Audio Mobile-Pre
Sterling Audio Microphone
