Default ProTools is obsolete ;-)

Garageband 11 has surpassed most functions of elastic audio.

"FlexTime"

"spell checker for bad rhythm"

I am going to retire now.

The iMovie "instant film trailer" module is something else... they have really simplified the art down to the most basic

1. find a clip with action
2. find a clip with a group
3. find a clip with star #1
4. find a clip with a group
5. When is the film going to be released

and a few more wizard type answers...

then you get this:

http://www.apple.com/ilife/imovie/#movie-trailers

click on "adventure" or "whitewater" -- these are simply amazing. And anyone can do this in minutes!!!!! Word is they paid the LSO to record this???

Freaking brilliant!

How long before a real film with a real budget uses this tool for their actual trailer? I predict by the end of the month.

Don't forget to mention the audio editing in iMovie '11. They have input trim that you can do throughout the clip. Heck with Garage Band! I'm switching to iMovie!

Guess you'll be trading in that Mac Pro for a MB Air...

But actually – I think Avid might learn lots from Apple. Huge creds to digi/avid for coming up with elastic audio, but many functions that are implemented in Pro Tools are much less intuitive and tasty than how it would have been if Apple did it. I'm happy we don't get Apple's restrictions and stuff, but I still think many functions could have been done smoother and more intuitive.

On the garageband demo, I noticed one particular thing: Did you see how smooth the opening of the "audio editor" was? If I want to open the midi editor of Pro Tools from one track, I often spend som irritating seconds zooming in or out, or scrolling up/down or sideways (and yes, I know about target mode or whatever its called).

As I've been saying for years, Avid should hire some composers to focus specifically on composing with pro tools, preferably people who are also familiar with Logic or DP and actually implement a usable stable midi system that surpasses the others.

As it stands, PT midi functions are at 1999 levels.

AVID WAKE UP ! ! ! ! ! ! (Please)

Here we are again comparing Apples with oranges. Pro Tools is great for what it can do, Logic and GarageBand the same. I have come up through the years learning the 3 systems. I don't think one replaces the other (although at times I wish they did!). As each system takes on BLOAT it makes it harder for any of us to master one system, especially when there are manuals over 1000 pages and no real "users guides" included in the system. BOTH Logic and Pro Tools are guilty of this! It makes GarageBand seem like a breath of fresh air - my 10 year old is creating much hipper stuff on it than my "older" Pro Tools friends! Maybe Avid should start again with just a separate "creative" tool... Have they done ANYTHING for the iPad yet? Oh, except lose Digi's former boss to that team? (http://heathmcconnell.com/blog/2009/...n-for-apple/);)
