The number one thing I want is surround mixing capability.

Number two would be a second light pipe input, allowing simultaneous recording of 26 (rather than 18) channels.

Number three would be a simple, hassle-free RTAS plug-in sampler like Sampletank, but it could record direct to the track and didn't have to come up on an aux track. It would come with an excellent library, but could easily accept most kinds of sample files.

I definitely care. I love PT, use it both professionally and at home, have invested lots of time and money into it. But if the next version doesn't have surround capability, I won't get it and probably will get something else. I'd still use PT ( I think), but I really need that surround capability. Clients are starting to ask for it.

I want more busses. 16 isn't enough for some of my projects. That is only 8 stereo tracks rewired. I hate doing multiple passes. 32 tracks is plenty for me. How about 64 mono busses?

Other than external hardware effects, what reasons?

Faster bounce would be real nice, and I'd use it almost all the time. There's no good reason for its absence.
A 'FREEZE TRACK' function would be nice. Yes, there are workarounds, but they are clumsy.
There are actually a few good reasons for it's absence, it's just that you probably don't run into them.
MIDI and ReWiring in other apps. It would be nice to have the option to of a quicker bounce if you weren't using such thing s though.

I have been using PT for a while at work and at home.
I love the audio editing multi tool.
i had no major compaints untill I was hired to finish a project started in Cubase.
I went to the friends studio. It took a few hours to get the basics and I was suprised at how much stuff I could do that the LE version just does not do.
Makes me wonder what I'm missing with Logic or DP
I will be checking them out.

Well, all i have to say is i'm happy with PTLE. And about the surround sound mixing? Just buy DP4... or get it free like i did The great thing and probably the reason i bought the 002r was the fact that i can use other software with it. If i were to buy the MOTU hardware, i wouldnt be able to use Pro Tools. Reason enough for me.
