There is a guy who sells the 002R on eBay for $1099 w/ free 3 day shipping. If you put up a good ad, and with the right buyer looking at your auction, you can get $600 or more for an 001 with Pro Tools 6 on eBay. Needless to say it would only run you $500 to upgrade in this scenario (even if you only get $500 you're still paying $600 vs. $795). I'd rather take my chances than fork out an extra $295 just to go through Digidesign.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I'd expect the second hand market price of the 001 to start falling rapidly given it's limited future...so if you go this route, do it quickly.

That Thomann price looks quite good!
But don't you have to pay VAT on that once it comes into the UK??
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">No VAT when shipping from EEC countries as taxes are paid at source. I've bought from Thomann several times without problems.

Say,

if i buy a used AMIII card, am I still eligible for the upgrade?

the AMIII card is supposedly known as the TOOLBOX, right?

Is the upgrade options only available through our local dealers? or can we go directly to digidesign's online store or something for this?

Coz, I did not buy my card from my local dealer, so i am not sure if they are willing to entertain my upgrade requests.

Thanks and Regards,
[charles]

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Hi Charles,

Only registered owners of a Digi 001, Mbox, or Audiomedia III card are eligible to participate in the exchange. If you want to register a used product, the form to do so can be found here:

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Hi,

sorry guys for making these posts, my personal Q&A (it might be useful for some readers, i hope)

The issue here is, i'm not sure if the previous owner did register the card before. And I'm not sure if i can locate him again.

Can I send a email to anybody with the S/No of the AMIII card to check if its' been registered already?

Besides, it did not come with any Protools LE s/w, and i actually bought it myself via the online store, thus, rightfully, ProTools LE belongs to me? btw, this card is installed on a PC PIII running WinXP.

How should I proceed? Also, if i cannot locate the seller anymore, can i still approach my local distributors/resellers for the upgrade option?

I am glad the upgrade path from legacy digi products to the 002R is finally available, and I am very excited about this upgrade. But I am not sure what to do from here.

Thanks and Regards,
[Charles]

OK here's the UK pricing:
Exchange your Digi 001 for a Digi 002 for only £1105.00 + VAT
Exchange your Digi 001 for a Digi 002 Rack for only £555.00 + VAT
Exchange your Mbox or Digi Toolbox for a Digi 002 for only £1245.00 + VAT
Exchange your Mbox or Digi Toolbox for a Digi 002 Rack for only £620.00 + VAT

I'm afraid I am going to pass. The Thomann 002R is priced at £883.67. The exchange price from Digidesign inc VAT is £625.12. That means my 001 is worth about £260. I'm sure I can get a bit more for it second hand.
