Default Re: 12.8.1 Crash on Quit

I had a crash on exit with Windows 10, PT 12.8.1.

I don't have Guitar Rig 5 or any NI plug-ins.

The "F" Batch fade issue I was waiting to be fixed was, but, I had enough crashing on exit or opening another session with PT open, so, back to 12.4. "F" Batch Fades works as it should and NO crashes on exit or when moving from one session to another <sigh>

Seems likely that there's more than one plugin related to this. I'm not near the change list for 12.8.1 right now, but didn't they change something to do with when the app quits?

I had the same plugins in 12.8 and it didn't take as much time as 12.8.1 to close. It seems like something has changed, I tend to blame the report page

For anyone impacted by this, I've created an entry on IdeaScale. Votes for the idea are always appreciated.

Default Pro Tools 12.8.1 Keeps Crashing

After I've updated to Pro Tools 12.8.1 it crashes every time I quit the program, and I have also seen more crashes when doing tasks inside of Pro Tools, i.e. if I want to delete 10 tracks at the same time.

Are there any known bugs with this version or certain plug-ins with this version? It's starting to get a little old!

I can make a list of all of my plug-ins if that helps.

Thanks

If you're on a mac I'd certainly recommend downloading "pt prefs" and trashing your preferences

Thanks, that helped. A little annoying that you have to reset all of you preferences every so often.

Also very nice app you linked to!

PT 12.8.1 crashing on exit - at least for some - is a known issue. At least one thread about it.

Use the PT Prefs app to save a backup of your preferences. Trash the prefs, then launch Pro Tools and set the prefs how you like them. For me this includes creating a temp session to set some prefs/settings that need to be set while a session is open. Once you get all the prefs set up how you like them, quit Pro Tools, launch PT Prefs, click the Backup/Restore tab, and click the Backup button. Then the next time you have to trash your prefs, like after a crash, trash your prefs and restore them using that app and everything should be back the way you want.

It actually took me a while to find all of the different places to reset prefs and settings that get trashed and restored, like any custom keyboard shortcuts that I setup in the mac's system preferences, or setting certain drives to transfer status, etc.

Also, if I find that I missed a setting in the PT Prefs backup, I trash and restore my prefs (so I know I have a clean, uncorrupted set to modify), then change whatever setting I missed in the previous backup and re-backup using the app. Then the next time I have to restore, the missing setting gets restored as well.

Hope that helps.

Really great suggestion; thank you. Don't know why I never thought to do a backup of a nice 'clean' set of preferences before. Love it.

12.8.1 has sadly not been good for me, so I definitely plan to do this when moving to 12.8.2, 12.9 or whatever's coming.
