Default PT 10 ...a disappointment?

I am not sure I am correct but from what I have read:

- I understand no 64 bit... still!
- I understand still the same virtual instruments like in PT 8.0m, no new good sounding guitar amps...basically no improvement for composers.
- And, still no Melodyne-alike flex pitch like in Digital Performer.

Elven rack?? for guitar? no?

And no, not 64 bit yet (next version) due to rtas and tdm phase out grace periord.

Not sure whether you are talking about 11R hardware or the plug-in (since I am comparing the guitar side of things with Logic and Digitalperformer out of the box, i.e. regardless of additional hardware). My point is I cannot see any real innovation when it comes to virtual instruments and instrument related plug-ins. This has all been the same since PT 8!

as stated previously. This release was really more intended in two things. One for the post prod, vs the music composing side of things. Second as a phasing out period of the tdm/rtas format, so that pt 11 can come as a 64 bit platform.

There is a lot that actually can enhance your musicality side in the new version of PT. Imagine composing on a laptop that has a slower than recommended HDD.. the nightmare when you are tracking with that.. gone now with pt10 +cptk.

Being able to do your cross-fade on the fly, and also trim your tracks without even stopping your creation phase, since you don't have to wait on the program to render the fades, or render the gain AUS plugin.

And there's a lot more, and more coming too.

So even if they didn't actually improve VI performance per say, there's a lot of other improvement that has been made, that works also for the music production side of the program, that can enhance your work flow.

Unfortunately this release is not directed to composers.
But I have hopes for new and improved VI's when PT finally goes 64 bit with next version. I would be suprised if we se 64bit within the next 12 months. I'm thinking more likely not befor 2 years.

that's what I'm thinking also, due to having to phase out the old systems.

Yes Chris, those of us on CPTK will get the RAM caching (& Input Monitoring! )

If I didn't have the CPTK I'd be seriously wondering where the 299 price tag comes from tho...

I understand all the reasons, e.g. phasing out things asf. Also back when PT 9 was introduced I tried to understand that the fact that PT can work without AVID hardware (wow!) is deemed an "improvement" (...even considering the fact that all other DAWs always always worked without dedicated hardware...) However, I do not see the reason why these "major" improvements have to cost 500 bucks everytime. I hope I am not the only one seeing the problem here. Wake up guys, this a way to make money and not a genuine and honest improvement of PT to the benefit of the customers...

Completely false. It -may- not be an improvement that fits your need. But it is for a -LOT- of people.
