12.8.1 is amazingly stable. I'm not sweating this. I found my version and am getting my work done.

Guys... just a thumbs up... it is unsupported as for now, but clean install of High Sierra and 12.8.2R2 is VERY snappy even on old (2011) hardware that I use for testing

I am on 12.8.1, 10.12.5 with MacPro(2013) 8x3.0GHz & iMac (2015) 4.0GHz.
No Problem with GUI.
("Only" these terrible known AAE-9173 errors)

So, what I am reading here, its better not updating to 12.8.2 / 10.12.6.

Or is there anyone out there, maybe 1 (!) person who has no GUI problems with 12.8.2 under 10.12.6 with one off the CPUs I use ?

Would be great to hear if there is a little bit hope.

Thanx Franklyn

Janne, I had no luck with the same clean install combination on a new Mac Pro (3.5GHz 6-core), not snappy at all. Had to step down to 12.8.1 and that one is actually very snappy.

Can you check and post the High Sierra build you installed please?

Mine is

System Version: macOS 10.13 (17A405)

Thanks.

EDIT:

Here are 2 video screen captures comparing 12.8.1 to 12.8.2 R2, same session, same machine, the capture's FPS count is not too high, so it's less noticeable than in real life.

12.8.1 : https://streamable.com/mji2q

12.8.2 R2: https://streamable.com/rlj7u

On 12.8.1 all movements are silky smooth, on Edit window the Main Counter keeps counting nice and even, and on Mix window the meters also smooth and responsive while scrolling.

Then, on 12.8.2R2 all movements are jumpy, on Edit window the Main Counter stalls and jumps (much less for horizontal scrolling), and on Mix window it's a mess, look how meters freeze on scrolling, and jumpy is the scroll itself.

* This is on High Sierra 10.13, but it was exactly the same on Sierra 10.12.6, and on 3 quite differently specd Apple machines.

I’m having the exact same issue on 10.12.4 Sierra on my 2013 Retina MacBook Pro. Sessions with a lot of edits are borderline unusable. Magic Mouse scrolling is insanely slow and choppy. Would love an update on a potential fix ETA.

I've had this for a while. Multiple versions. I even had a very simple session with a few audio tracks being fed by my modular synth rig the faders are super sticky

I am usually the one having issues with my small and ancient system, but 12.8.2 seems to be working great with no GUI lag.

I made up a test session with 64 instrument tracks each with the Hybrid 3.0 Air Synth and all playing MIDI. (I usually only use about 8 MIDI tracks and a few audio tracks)

H/W Buffer at 256 Samples
CPU Usage at 20% (with a normal session 12%)
Memory at 60% (with a normal session 30%)

NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB graphics card

El Capitan !!!! OS X 10.11.6

I'm not surprised that an all MIDI instrument track session would run without lag. The problem comes from drawing the audio waveforms. Can you add several tracks that contain audio to the session and report back your results?

Done, I deleted 32 of the MIDI tracks and added 32 audio tracks, each with random pink noise, and the waveform boosted high. So we have 64 tracks of MIDI and audio. This was played at a resolution so you could see the waveform variation of pink noise between the 32 tracks.

The results are the same, no GUI lag. (Scrolling the mix window through the tracks or scrolling the edit window up & down through the tracks.)

CPU now at 12%
Memory now at 43%

Just to be clear, playback works generally fine, the lag is noticeable while scrolling the mix and edit windows. Please check the videos on my last post.
