If 500 of us did that it really could make an impact as most share holders never take the time to vote.

The share holder has 100X the power of a customer/end user.
Excellent point and idea!!!!

Right about how stupid it would be to pay $600 more for an upgrade than people with the "regular" version of 9 with the CPTK?

Unless the "HD" version has some hidden code that suddenly comes to life with Avid interfaces and the HDX card, its just robbery.

The thing that gets me is they are asking for $1000 for a product that they only supporting through one version? WTF? How does that make any sense?

PT9 is still new and that was $350 and now PT10 is here and they want $1000 more and then say ummmm oh yeah...thanks for the money and btw your [bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep] is now obsolete!

WTF?

Please, credit those who have already purchased 10HD to the hardware exchange.

Hi All,

One way to pay less for your Pro Tools HD 10 software upgrade is to purchase an Avid Standard Support Contract for $599.

Avid Standard Support provides business hours support and access to software updates.

5 x 9 assisted support
7 x 24 access to online knowledge base and product forums
Software updates and patchesn
Optional: Remote diagnosis via customer allowed connection
Optional: Access to scheduled onsite support - 7 business days (fees apply)1

This is a great deal for professionals that want to upgrade their software. For example, had you purchased a support contract last November, you would have received both the Pro Tools HD 9 and Pro Tools HD 10 for free as part of your support contract. Plus you gt all of the other benefits above.

Talk to your dealer about it.

http://www.avid.com/us/support/plans/standard-support

So apparently you buy this "support" plan and all upgrades are covered for $599. They are trying to do a WUP style thing I guess...

Sounds good; no complaints about subscription models or paying for support.

Now, I'll take the blame for being trigger-happy, but one thing Avid could do better is clearly enumerate the upgrade options. When it was announced, I clicked on the link to upgrade from 9 to 10, there was nothing to suggest (until I actually downloaded the installation instructions - after buying it!) that this upgrade did not apply to HD.

So then, I bought the HD upgrade. Now my dealer tells me that the HDX crossgrade also includes this, and whilst I'm not complaining about the price of the HD upgrade, it's a significant enough expense that one doesn't want to pay for it twice. I appreciate that Avid is generous in providing the cross-grade offer in the first place, but a SKU for those who already have 10HD iLok assets would be good.

Wait, so you're saying anyone who has any version of PT can update to PT10 HD for 599 just by buying a support contract?

Um, doesn't that sort of render your pricing scheme pointless?

Thank you Avid for convincing me to go to Steinberg. Avid hardware is becoming unreliable (working Win7 003 drivers?), and their software is way behind! I'm predicting the next announcement from Avid is a series of layoffs. good luck!
