how do you set up a talkback mic with a 002r?

i have a 002r and i am curious as to how other oo2r owners are setting up talkback mics. is there a way to do it without recording it? right now the way i do it is i put a mic on a small desk stand next to my monitor and plug it into one of the 002r's mic pre's than set up an audio track for that pre and put that track in record enable and leave it on at a really low level and in record mode for the entire session. this way i dont have to push any buttons or click anything to talk to the people but the downside is that the talkback track gets recorded just like the rest of the tracks thus taking up drive space. is there a better way?

I suppose instead of an audio track, you could just use a mono aux track with the input set to that of your talkback mic!

That is exactly how I do it. Create a MONO AUX track and set it to the right input. That way you are not taking up a audio track. You just mute it when you start to record so you don't get feedback. TOTAL DESIGN FLAW ON THE 002 DIGI! Talkback mic would make that thing PERFECT!

I am also trying to fiure a way to make a talk back mic that would be in chain to the headphone preamp. This is what I am trying to do:

Run out from the DIGI Left and right 1/2 to my headphone mixer. On the way out, one channel would go into a insert that would go to an old school PA mic that has a TRUE BYPASS. Then that channel goes to the INPUT of the headphone pre. Then, you hit the button on the PA mic and it turns on, you talk, they hear it in the headphones, and then when they talk back to you, you hear it over the MONITORS. No mic channel is used, and they hear you in the headphones.

CAN THIS WORK? Chris Cavell and I spoke about it, but he went into QUANTUM PHYSICS with it on me and I shrivelled up and hide under my car seat. Sorry dude! Gotta put it in words. FLUX CAPACITORS and 1.21 gigawatts scares me!

Anyways, that would be a cool thing to add to the system. Thinnk about it! An ole school talkback mic free rom the LE 002 system that is head by the clients, clean bypassed and works!

Ya, that too. I own the 002 though, not the 002R. That does suck though! Just leave it on I guess and don't hook a ribbon mic up to it.... EVER! ;-

Or a NTK which I did and not that this was the cause of the mic having noise but I had to return/exchange for another one, problem solved. As far as a talkback, I have been looking at the samson C control for $99.00. But this is low on my list right now since I have been tryin upgrade my converters, ebay snipers get me everytime I think I'm getting a deal. lol.

I do it the same way as doc says, but I know people also use wirelees walky talkies and baby monitors and place one in the vocal booth and it's heard in their singing mic and back to the headphones of the singer.

the only problem with the Big Knob is that its 400 bucks. i made my own, you can get all the parts for under 20 bucks in radioshack(mics included) if anyone wants plans i'll explain in greater detail....
