Not sure which manual you are looking in, but this is where I would look:
Pro Tools 11 Documentation (All)
AIR Creative Collection Guide
Chapter 26: Structure Free
Quote:
To create a New Structure Free Patch from an Audio File, drag one or more audio files into the Patch list to load; a new patch is created.

I looked through this one:
http://akmedia.digidesign.com/suppor...revC_39332.pdf

I also just looked through the one you sent me but it's just about the same info, it tells me how to load patches but I don't believe that's the same thing and to even make a patch of your own, guess what, you need to drag and drop lol.

Some of the things in this new blog post may help:
Sticky: Using the Free Pro Tools 11 Virtual Instruments

Also, this one may be useful:
Structure Free - Pro Tools Tutorial

It starts by editing existing existing structure patches, and around the 13 minute mark it goes into creating patches from audio files/samples.

Its really not that difficult. Once you have an audio clip (usually WAV) of a source sound you want to import to Structure, all you need to do is go into Structure free and import the sound there in the sound field on the left side of the Structure screen. To simplify matters, keep your source samples in an easy to find file so you can navigate to them easily. Once imported, you can assign them to which key you wish to trigger the sample(s).

You can't drag an audio file in structure but you can import it. I'm not at my production computer at the moment so I will have to a little walk through later.
You should be able to drag audio files from any folder into Structure. I used to do it all the time in the 1st version. Did it a couple of times in structure 2 then it refused to do it again.

I think he means drag a wav directly from a folder or from desktop.

I can't comment on the operation of Structure free but in the full version the drag and drop situation goes like this:

In all Structure 1 (RTAS) versions you can drag and drop from pretty much anywhere.

In Structure 2 (AAX) versions you can no longer drag and drop from within Pro Tools itself, either the region list or the edit window. But you can still drag drop direct from the finder (and presumably explorer). It was my understanding from discussion in a previous thread that this was something to do with the AAX code itself but I don't really know.

Having said that I'm still finding Structure buggy as hell, the new version even more so than the old one. So an alternative sampler might be the better option if you value your sanity

I read somewhere, I'm sorry I can't remember where, that dragging from the timeline/folders into Structure was more of a bug than a feature. It was never suppose to be able to do that, but through a hack, the developers found a hook that allowed it. AAX plugin APIs closed that option.

It would be nice, because you could chop up the sampple in pro tools edit view, and then drag it into structure, but now you can't. I haven't figured out a way to use it yet, besides working with kotnakt

A workaround would be to slice up your sample in the region view, cut and paste each slice to it's own individual track, mute all other unrelated tracks, then bounce the tracks out. Once bounced, you can grab them all at once from your OS and drag them into Structure to create a patch.
