Default Delay Issues

When using real time delay plug in there is a gap between the point where the singer sings and the playback is heard. For example, the singer will sing a note and there will be a 1sec delay before you hear the play back. I can’t use low latency monitoring because I won’t be able to use the real time plug in. I know that I can also lower my buffer size but is that the only solution?

The best solution, all around, is to use the fastest computer you can get, and keep the buffer size as low as possible during tracking. If things have already gotten real complex with plugins, you might need to disable some during overdubs. You should be able to keep your buffer size down at 128 pretty easily.

If that's not good enough for you, use an external preamp and/or mixer, and monitor the input directly. Zero latency. This is essentially what the Mbox does.

Another possibility is to trick the system into allowing you to use plugins and low latency monitoring at the same time. It can be done.

I don't remember the exact details, it's been written up here a bunch of times. Has something to do with exactly which plugins get disabled in low latency mode.
