Default Un-necessary "Save" Request

Hello!

This has been happening since V-8. you open PT, press space-bar, or click play, to listen to a project.

You're satisfied with your listen, stop, and ready to quit.

Why do I have to "Save", "Don't Save" or "Cancel", if I didn't change anything?

Not un-necessary. You did change something: you changed where the playhead is located (even if it relocates back to the same spot.) When you open a session, it puts the playhead where it was last saved.

This is the ONLY DAW I know, where that happens.

Maybe because it isn't a DAW, per se, but it doesn't happen in Sibelius, another Avid product. (No, PLEASE don't put it there.)

Maybe for your workflow this isn't important but for post-production audio and music cue tracking, where the playhead is matters. I'll have an assistant open and close 40-50 music cue sessions and set them up so they're ready to go when I need to pull them up on the main system/mix desk.

Any change of "state" (window movement, window shown -- like memory locations, resize, playback) requires a save to keep it. It also helps when I need to "lose" the change because I need to see/hear something temporarily but don't want the change kept when I pull it up when I need to actually get to work. That's when you don't save.

In opposite, Cubase/Nuendo saves the last position without choice (whether you hit save or not.) That's been a major PITA when doing things like educational presentations (for instance.) You have to reset everything before closing or resize everything when you go from laptop to main system and back. Checking something on a flight, usually have to duplicate files so the originals stay the way I wanted them.

Overall, this is a strange "moan"

Workspaces don't save Playhead location.
Workspaces won't compensate for different screen sizes/number of attached screens.

Sometimes you want things to open just the way you left them intentionally. Pro Tools gives you that ability and choice to do what you want.

Which only takes about 2 seconds.

Having said that the more one can 'customize' preferences, the better in any software application IMO.

Cmd-s, shift-command-w, in quick succession. No issue.

This is so automatic to most users they probably don't even realise they're doing it. It's so automatic to me that sometimes I end up saving changes I didn't want.
