Default Pro Tools LE & M-Audio Projectmix

Hi everybody.

I've currently got an Mbox2 on it's way to me, hurrah, but I've been offered a good price on an M-Audio Projectmix I/O. Is it possible to use this under Pro Tools LE as a control surface and audio interface whilst having the Mbox2 plugged in just to work as the world's largest dongle?

No, but if you drop $249 on ProTools M-Powered, you can use the ProjectMix as the interface for ProTools. You can't use M-Audio interfaces in PTLE.

cheers for the replies. it's not what i want to hear, but that's not your fault

i don't really fancy dropping all that cash on the m-powered version having just paid for LE, but it's still not a bad price just to use it as a control surface compared to a mackie universal or the digi command8, and the m-audio site seems to indicate it can do this fine in pro tools. it'd also be a better audio interface for me to use with the copy of logic 7 that i already own. hmmmm, it's still tempting even if the news has taken the edge off it a little. time to put on my serious thinking hat and decide if it's worth it

Hi,

Just happened to catch this thread and thought I'd add my 2 cents. I just purchased a ProjectMix, thinking I could use it with LE too. Just want to use the faders to control my mixes. I've been using the Digi001 and can't upgrade to a higher version of LE or I'll lose compatibility. All info I read so far says I should be able to do this....using OSX 10.3.9 and LE version 6.4. So far I've been unsuccessful in getting the Core Audio driver to funtion with this setup. Whenever I open my Audio/Midi setup, the ProjectMix icon appears but won't allow me to connect it to any other gear in the setup. The icon also shows the ProjectMix as having 2 midi in's and 2 out's (only has 1 of each) and won't allow any changes (greyed out).
Anybody out there having this experience? Appreciate any help.

Michael

you may know G.C. has a policy not to be undersold for any deal in brick
and mortar stores or online stores...

if you ebay you can see some resellers offer Projectmix with a FREE copy of
Protools M-Powered! I bet you can get a Projectmix AND PT-MP if you show
them a copy of the auction or have them go online to check it out..

they should match those prices...
But now if your existing deal is better than this.. but its hard to beat a new
Projectmix with a free copy of Protools MP! and with G.C.'s excellent return policy
and exchangability if somethings wrong.. its hard to pass up that deal...

caveat emptor!
good luck in your decision!

Although never tested with Pro Tools LE, you may be able to use the ProjectMix I/O as a HUI device as a controller only. The ProjectMix I/O details page says "* DAW software version must support Mackie Control, Logic Control or HUI protocol. Support available now via free downloadable firmware upgrade; download the firmware here."

Pro Tools 6.4 was the only Pro Tools LE 6 (or PT 7) release that was not tested with the Mackie Designs HUI or CM Labs MotorMix controller files and did not install them automatically with Pro Tools.

So you would need to install the HUI controller file separately if you wanted to try it as a MIDI controller with the Digi 001:

I've got good and bad news...

Good news is ProjectMix is communicating with ProTools Le 6.4. Bad news is it doesn't look like ProTools is communicating back to ProjectMix....faders not moving. But the faders on ProjectMix are controlling volume on PT....at least until the automated data kicks in and overides the changes I'm making with the faders in real time.
Another plus is the midi window on the ProjectMix's panel is showing a green flashing light, indicating midi data is present. Well....win some, lose some. Thanks again for your help.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot.....

There's an error popup in PT that says......ProTools is unable to communicate with HUI. Powercycle HUI and check it's connections. Note, if HUI is not in use, update the periphials dialog box to prevent further warnings.
Just thought you should know. Thanks.
