Movin\' On Up! PT III to 002R
Yep, I made the move. I just sold my trusty old PTIII rig and jumped into the 002r and I'm feeling quite excited about the move. HOWEVER!!!! Does anyone care to share their opinions on whether or not this was a good move. Obviously I will have a better bit/sample rate and more options to work with all other outside projects without haveing to do a conversion BUT whever I read the DUC all I ever hear about are problems with latency, system conflicts and things just plain getting in the way of any work getting done. Did I make the right move? Im switching over on Monday and I am in the middle of two records. I guess I'm just scared but Id love to hear your opinions on this subject.
ALSO, what version of Pro Tools should I be using with a dual G4, 1.25 and Panther? I nothiced the updates seem to be only for the G5. Thanks! |

Re: Movin\' On Up! PT III to 002R
Spanky, you deserve a spanking! I think a little more homework would have been in order. In the middle of two albums your making this kind of fundamental change to your studio? Yikes. OK, first of all, Panther is technically not supported with any G4, although some seem to be using it successfully with 6.2.2. The fully supported version of PTLE and your G4 is OS 10.2.6 or 10.2.8 and PTLE 6.1.2. In the middle of two albums, I'd stick with what's supported. Best of luck....you'll need it!

Re: Movin\' On Up! PT III to 002R
Remember, "Not Supported" doesn't mean that it doesn't work. If you search around here from the past few weeks, you'll see plenty of people are having success with lesser systems running Panther and PT 6.2.2.
Since you're already using Panther, you should go with 6.2.2. Your headache will more likely be with updating your plugins. I must say, that is a pretty risky move for the middle of 2 projects. --- c
