Default Purchasing plugins through the AVID Marketplace

Hello, I am a new user of the forums so I apologize if there's any mistake in starting this thread. I am aware that there are several similar threads that deal with users who are not aware that the only way to get new plugins for Pro Tools First is by purchasing through the Marketplace. However I am still unsure whether my particular case is the same as others'.

Say, for example, that you win the rights to a license for a plugins bundle through a contest, co-hosted by the very company that made the plugins in question, and you would like to use them in Pro Tools First. For reference, these are not any random plugins - they're available through the Marketplace and therefore would work if you were to purchase them. Is there any way to somehow get the plugins working in PTF without purchasing the products you won the rights to?

I apologize again if this is an unnecessary thread. Thank you in advance.

That's a good question that I can't answer. I can tell that you will outgrow PT First really soon, so you can save that gift until you move the regular version, or until you move to a different DAW(most plugins run on pretty much every DAW). First is a very restricted teaser. If it truly covers all your needs, I would check with the plugin maker. Then there's the question of whether PT is right for you? Knowing what your real needs and wants are should get you better advice. Reaper and Cakewalk by Bandcamp are both very capable DAW programs without serious limitations(Reaper is free to try and cheap to buy, Cakewalk is just plain free)

Installing a Plugin has nothing to do with the DAW you are using for (gessoed the format, AAX, AU, VST). SO there is not reason to wait for anything. If you decide on getting it, get it now and use it with whatever DAW you are working on.

Pro Tools First doesn‘t allow any random Plugins to run that are not bought through the Marketplace. Thats by design from Avid. It is part of the „free Pro Tools“ deal. However, sometimes, as i mentioned earlier, there can be plug-ins running that are already installed on your system. For instance in my case the izotope elements suite, which i bought on pluginboutique. On the other hand a lot of the regular plugins from my Pro Tools Full Sub don‘t work in Pro Tools First.

It‘s not ideal in my opinion- but as i said- it‘s part of the deal to buy plugins and services from the marketplace. The great thing is - you dont need to pay for the software development and get 1-2 times a year new versions with stability improvements , added features and so on. As Jeff Rosica AVID CEO said there are more than 3 Million users using First Products like PRo Tools First.
