Default Record midi - new region?

Hello when i record midi, it either merges new midi notes (merge midi mode) or overwrites all the notes in an existing region.

I would like it to create a new region when I start recording - is there a way to do it? i tried with loop recording it still overwrote all notes.

hmmm it started working with loop recording... clicked on the different buttons around and including "Link timeline and edit selection"
