Default ProTools Not Opening After Windows Update Yesterday

Since yesterday's Windows Auto-Updates (7.11.13), My ProTools 9.06 will not open. I get an error 7 msg. I tried a method posted in a thread regarding the same issue from last October (msconfig, hide Microsoft Services, check Avid/M-box/Pace) boxes, reboot) but it didn't work.

thanks for any help you can provide.
Gregg

Default Re: ProTools Not Opening After Windows Update Yesterday

BTW, here's my computer info, below. I have assumed it was the recent Windows updates that are causing the problem, since I was able to open ProTools 9 a week ago (and have been able to for the year and a half). This is the only thing I'm aware that has changed.

Default Re: ProTools Not Opening After Windows Update Yesterday

Well, a conversation with myself . . .
I just went to msconfig on the Run menu, went to Services tab, hid all Microsoft services, disabled all services, checked the Avid, M-box, and Pace boxes, and Applied it. After rebooting, ProTools ran again. I then went through each non-Microsoft/non-Avid/Pace service one-by-one, checking its box and Applying, then tried to start ProTools. I found the culprit, an unnecessary service, and left it unchecked and Applied and Restarted. ProTools opens fine now.

Could you possibly share with us what that service was in case someone else has a similar issue? It might help me with a problem I am having on one of my systems right now. TlA!

Glad you got it sorted! Good detective work

And, a reminder to all. Automatic updates should be turned OFF, and you should ALWAYS have a backup plan. Mine is the religious use of Acronis True Image and saving a drive image BEFORE any update, whether its a Windows update, a Pro Tools update, or the installation of ANY software.
