Default HardDisk Jumper Settings

Hello Steve,

Would you know what the jumper settings on the harddisks should be when using the system with ProTools:

Terminator Power from Drive?
Terminator Power to SCSI Bus?
Drive furnishes power both to its own terminators and to SCSI Bus
Terminator Power from SCSI Bus

Enable/Disable Motor Start

Enable/Disable Parity Check of SCSI Bus

Thanks

Samhein,

Terminator Power from Drive?

No

Terminator Power to SCSI Bus?

Yes

Drive furnishes power both to its own terminators and to SCSI Bus

Not unless you use the drive's internal terminators, in which case you'd have to jumper Term Enable as well.

Terminator Power from SCSI Bus

No in most cases. Some SCSI controllers may be finicky and require this configuration. If so, you should be very cautious about your cable lengths, as Term Power will dissipate over the length of the bus due to resistance.

Enable/Disable Motor Start

I'm not sure about this off the top of my head. If enabling it allows the drive to spin up at power-on (without requiring a start command from the host), then you should do so.

Enable/Disable Parity Check of SCSI Bus

Parity should be enabled, but it must be enabled on all devices (including the host). If any device on the bus doesn't support parity, then none of the devices should be set to enable parity. It's all or nothing with this setting.

Hope this helps.

BTW, it's easier for me if you post these kinds of questions to the Storage section, since that's the main place I look.

Thanks.
