Kontakt 5.8 update

From an email I just got from NI about Kontakt:
"The KONTAKT team have released the latest free update: You can now download Version 5.8 in Native Access.

KONTAKT 5.8 introduces much-requested improvements to the Libraries tab: Alphabetical sorting and text search allow for quicker navigation. The virtual keyboard now automatically resizes to match rack widths higher than the default.

It also adds a number of optimizations, enhancements, and features for developers, plus fixes for a number of rare but troublesome bugs."

What is NOT in the email is Native Access apparently needs an update and both that update and the Kontakt update need a minimum of El Crapitan on Macs. So if your system is frozen at OSX 10.10.5 or earlier you cannot partake of these updates. I've a feeling more and more NI vi's will be this way. Didn't there used to be a way to download an update without going through Native Access or the old Service Center?

Supposedly if you still have the old service center app you can get into your download pages for direct download. I had to do this for some stuff last update cycle. Though most downloaded fine from the new app.

According to Evil Dragon over on the NI forums the K5.8 update is only available via Native Access. Service Center doesn't show any updates available for Kontakt (the Kontakt I have is the version just before K5.8).

I run PT11.3.2 under OSX 10.10.5. So El Crapitan is out (not that I'd use it anyways) and Sierra doesn't run PT11.3.2 that I know of at least according to the compatibility chart.

Anyone update yet? Is it stable? I know there have been some sketchy Kontakt updates with protools in the past....

And like I mentioned earlier one need El Crapitan or later to get Native Access to cough up that there's the K5.8 available. What someone wondered about over on the NI forum would the update work on OSX 10.10.5 or not. This might be a good case for having a small boot partition for Sierra or High Sierra, putting Kontakt 5.7.x on it along with Native Access and downloading the K5.8 update then transfer that update over to the partition with the earlier version of Kontakt. One used to be able to just save off the update when it was downloaded; don't know if this is still a possibility.

Thoroughly po'd NI is artificially limiting the update; not like we haven't seen that before around here

Here's an update:
Doing what I proposed won't work. Was able to download the update on a Sierra test boot partition on an external drive. Brought the update over to my internal ssd boot drive and installed K5.8 Went to start it and was told it won't run because of the OSX mismatch. Phooey.

While trying to bring back my Kontakt clone I hit pilot error and wiped out my internal boot ssd. Now recloning the whole drive. Oh well - didn't have anything else to do this sunny Saturday anyway

While I had the computer booted up into Sierra (I don't know what exact revision as I grabbed it from the App Store just before High Sierra dropped) I installed PT11.3.2. Installed no problem but when I went to start I got a bunch of error messages which ultimately told me I had to update the iLok software. Did that and PT started up just fine. Even called up an old test project from some time back and that played fine. I didn't install any of my third party plugins but the stock Avid stuff seemed okay.

I make no warranty/guarantee that this will work without issue for me or anyone else as this was just a test for my own edification.
