Default Keeping Plugins Up To Date - Life After PluginUpdate

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if we might be able to pull talents together and get something going which may help the community.

I relied on plugin update for a healthy system, that support has stopped I'm finding it ever more frustrating going through the system update process.

Are there any software developers within the community who may be able to put together a very basic plugin version checker and comparative chart ?

When 2018.4 came out I went through my plugin folder file by file to see which versions I have and went to each manufacturer website to compare. Very laborious but I am current with everything in there. Some haven't been updated in a while, like Cranesong Phoenix 2 for instance. But yeah, with Plugin Update no longer working it's a pain.

It would be nice if AVID would just host a simple site where Devs could just post their latest version numbers for all their AAX/DSP.

We need something automated. Building it into Pro Tools makes complete sense, especially as Pro Tools has its own propretitary plugin format.

As it is, most plugin manufacturers have their own global installers these days which helps for sure. However, I'm still loosing too much time keeping everything updated for multiple manufacturers.

What makes most sense to me is what some developers like TDL, Positive Grid and Soundtoys have already implemented inside their own plugins that let you know when there's a new version available as soon as you open one of them. All these ideas require that the computer is connected to the internet which not everybody wants to do.

Arturia, waves and isotope all have the auto feature also but it would still be nice if there was some basic page where you could just check everything you have all at once. I cant even keep track of what I have half the time so anything that could simplify version ID would be helpful.

I created an Ideascale ticket that can be voted on here:

Which contains a link to this discussion as well.

I'm happy to contribute to a sticky spreadsheet here with latest version numbers and release dates..

but for avid themselves to waste any time on it? please no. There are literally 100 things I'd rather see first..

You know what? Always having to have the latest plugin version installed is not always a good thing anyway.. you know how many perfectly working plugins i have broken doing this?

Now i have learned to only even bother looking for an update if there is a noticeable bug that may have been fixed, or I have upgraded to the next apple OS version...
