Default Will MBox work with LE8 & Macbook Pro?

Hi gang. I've been in the stone age... using an original style MBox and ProTools LE 6.9.2 on a PC with Windows XP I bought new in 2002. It's worked great until now. Just last week it decides to freeze up halfway through opening.

This doesn't concern me, it's actually perfect timing. In November I bought a MacBook Pro. I made sure to get lots of storage and RAM on it so I could do video editing. But I digress... I emailed an old music professor and asked for his recommendation. Long story short, he was nice enough to send me his Digi 003 Rack which he had been using with LE 8. We are going through the process to transfer the license.

Here is my question:

Let's say I want to go to a bar and record a band. Can I use the MBox with LE 8 on the MacBook? Of course, at home, I'll use the awesome 003 Rack, but I'd like a portable alternative.

Thanks, J

Crap... 8.0.5 won't work with OS X 10.7, will it? It sounds like I need to either upgrade to PT 10, or... downgrade my OS X? Is that even possible?

ok... reading more here... I guess downgrading the OS would be foolish. So what do you all recommend so I can use this 003 Rack? Plunk down the $399 for PT 10? That is the price for an upgrade, with a properly transferred license, correct? Is it really the dog's bollocks?

Since you like portability, and have used the Mbox in the past, you might consider getting a new Mbox 3 bundled with PT9, which gives you a free upgrade to PT10. It wouldn't be a whole lot more money, and you would get PT10, and the new Mbox, which sounds fantastic, in fact way better than the 003.

You can get it from Guitar Center or Musicians friend and use their 15% off coupons they always email. Or buy from Uniquesquared.com, which has great prices to begin with.

You could do like me, create a small partition just for running the mbox w/PT8.0.1 (latest ver. comp. w/mbox1) and use a safe compatible version of mac os on it. When you get home you just open the sessions in Lion.

Great ideas, thanks! I have a Lexicon Alpha, will that work with any version of Pro Tools?

The Lexicon will work with PT9 or 10, as they are the only versions to support 3rd party interfaces.

I got it working! (The 8.0.5 on Lion) THanks everyone!

I think I'll just do remote stuff with GarageBand and the Alpha. I mean digital is digital right? THen I can just mix in PT later, right?
