Default Sonnox posts FAQ about AAX plugins

Sonnox has posted info on how they'll be handling AAX plugins. It will be interesting to see how different companies are handling this.

In a nutshell, they will have AAX-Native and AAX DSP, with 2 pricing tiers (though the DSP versions will include the Native version as well). They also mention they've lowered the pricing on TDM, and the AAX DSP will be similar.

You can check it out here:

Thumbs up Re: Sonnox posts FAQ about AAX plugins

Yep, I just received my email from them as well. They appear to be very committed to AAX. That's good.

You can exchange the licenses of your TDM plug-ins for the equivalent AAX-DSP plug-ins by paying 25% of the list price of AAX-DSP plug-ins. This can become costly pretty fast...

I think we'll see companies who win many future customers with offering some aax updates for free, and many other who will loose potential customers with their upgrade policy.
I'm not saying that it's good or not, but it can definitely have serious effect on customers.

Hi,

EQ or Dynamics @£350 (some plugins are more some less)

So to upgrade to AAX DSP from TDM and surrender your TDM plugin £86 ($135)
to upgrade to AAX DSP from TDM and keep your TDM plugin .......... £210 ($334)

The 5 plugins i own will be nearly £400 to go to AAX thats surrendering the TDM plugins? if thats going to be easy and backwards compatible!!!!!!!!

If every vendor charges me that to upgrade to AAX i will be looking at about £8000 ($12700)

If AAX is not backwards compatible with TDM then the price will be more

There will be two options to upgrade/crossgrade from TDM plug-ins to AAX-DSP plug-ins:

If you have a TDM plug-in and wish to keep it, while adding an AAX-DSP plug-in, you can make a 'supplementary' purchase of the AAX-DSP plug-in for a 40% discount on the list price.

If you have no further need of your TDM plug-in, you can exchange the licence for the equivalent AAX-DSP plug-in. This 'exchange' transaction will qualify for a 75% discount on the list price of the plug-in.

Why am i not surprised???

Currently i only own the native inflator and would love to have more but their sales policy such as, you must ask our permission to sell the plugins and a registration fee etc, leaves a lot to be desired.

I can't see any point in them making you surrender your TDM license, after all it's now a legacy format, it's just another kick in the teeth for the HD users.

What would be nice is if they overhauled their plugins, had a spring clean so under the plugin manufacturer names their aren't three different variations and redesign the OS9/Win98 GUI's.

It's a very strange move from their part. Considering that many competitors offered free aax updates...

They are also offering AAX Native to owners of Native plugins.
The fee for native only is 15GBP.

Quote:
If you have the current latest (post-2007/pre-November 2011) Native plug-in, there is a simple process and a nominal fee of 15.00 GBP to upgrade to the latest generation Native licences.

There will be free upgrades for customers who have purchased their plug-ins within 90 days of the November 2011 release date.
Peace,
Ryan

not the best deal but it beats full price
if we all hold out maybe they will rethink the pricing structure
