Sorry to hear of your problems. I'm on a MacPro six core with 10.8.4 and both 10 and 11 are working fine.

If you will be specific as to the error messages and report what is happening, I bet many would come to your aid.

Can't help about AAX. I'm waiting for Waves to get it done myself. They say "very soon".

Danny,

Is it "safe" to goto 10.8.4 on a MBPr 2013 with PTHD11 and PTHD10 as we don't wanna get skewed in the reinstall circus when we didn't even have one tiny glitch installing and running the new 10.3.6 and 11 HD

I would really like clarification on when we should update and if we need the "combo" installer or just the update as we are on 10.8.3 now.

Best Wishes
Chris

Hi Park,

Thanks for the response!! Man, I'm very happy to hear you're up and running fine. That's great!!! I'd love to know what that feels like!!!

The story on the error messages is kind of long. I've filed a service request with Avid with screen shots and all using my wonderous 30 day FREE CUSTOMER SERVICE CODE!!!!!!! (only Avid (and Waves...) could have the audacity to CHARGE you to fix the problems they themselves have created with the product they already took YOUR money for - the product that doesn't work!!!!)

The bottom line is there's a very inconsistent error that involves PT11 (or perhaps OSX as suggested above) to think that it ran out of processor horsepower which stops playback. I can run the load meter and see that all 24 virtual processors are essentially unused when it happens (plus it happens on very small files...). The weird thing is I can re run the session 4 or 5 times, get errors every time, then the whole thing seems to stop and I can run it for as long, or as many times as I want (as far as I know) and it doesn't happen anymore. Weird, huh??

I'm with you on Waves - hope they get their stuff out soon. Be that as it may, I don't believe I'll be able to use PT11 for anything serious for something like a year at this rate. I'll either have to replace stuff that's never going to be ported or wait until it gets ported.

Congratulations on your stuff working Park - outstanding!!!!!!!!!!

As a test, run the demo session and see where your CPU usage is. With six cores, I am between 5 and 7%.

I am in 10.8.4. I did the normal upgrade, no combo. No problems yet.

Since you have already started a ticket with Avid, let's hope they find the problem.

Hi Park,

The demo session is one of the sessions I've been testing with. My CPU usage looks like it gets up to maybe 1%, possibly 2 at most. I almost can't see the indicators.

Yeah, hoping Avid will find the problem but based on a LOT of past experience, it will take 5 or 6 exchanges to even get them to simply READ the original request. They are the absolute worst customer service company on the face of the planet Earth (well, except for Microsoft of course).

Thanks,
r

Hey Rus,

Sorry to hear about your issues. You mention you had to use your free asc code to open up a support case with Avid ? PM me the details please. If you had to use that code to get out of registration issues then you should get a new one.

Thanks

Chris

Interesting...

I'm using a hackintosh with a i7 3770k (stock speed) and it's showing 8 cores.. (though four are virtual). The demo for me runs at between 13-15%... Time to look for a six-core CPU now I think.. lol

To rus5, Sorry you are having issues. For me it's gone very well, even with the whole iLok thing.

Could it be that there are things running in the background that might be causing conflicts? Once you get the bugaboos worked out you will be pleased with 11. I have to say that I am mightily impressed so far. But then again, I find COPS entertaining so you may want to take that with a grain of salt..

HHHhhhaaaaaaa!!!!!! That's great!!!! Well, a lot of people must like that show or it wouldn't have lasted so long!!!

I don't think it's stuff running in the background since the CPU load meters for all 24 processors (12-dual thread cores - the new one is going to be so much better than mine!!!) show almost no usage. But thanks for the thought!

Glad you're having a good time of it. That's awesome!!! And yes, from what I can see so far it's a significant improvement in speed which is good. Now if Avid had only done their homework so there were plugins to use with it (referring to the fact that they lied through their teeth when Chris Gahagan claimed it was easy to write AAX and trivial to go to AAX-DSP from native).

Good Luck and thanks for the reply!!!
Russ

Again to market with a product that's not ready, a common theme these days. Must have a good reason right? Avid will take even more flak over it. Also wonder why they didn't wait for the Ilokalypse to pass?
Anyway who cares, I'll stick with PT10 it works
