2018.4 Woes
Having been rock solid for quite some time I have been experiencing several issues with 2018.4 on Windows 10.
I have been have problems with crashes on start up. After several attempts I have managed to get it to start. Worked around this by keeping PT open. Recording midi and vi’s causing terrible lag. When recording anything polyphonic ie piano the song pointer stops and the screen freezes. At the end of the recording I can press stop and the system appears to have frozen. After several minutes the screen refreshes and the take has been successfully recorded. This morning I have taken steps to troubleshoot. 1. Trashed preferences. No improvement to midi recording. 2. Removed plug in. Virtually all except the air plugs and mini piano. Recording of midi is improved. Major issue. Since trashing preferences I have lost my C24. When trying to set this up via Peripherals I scan Ethernet and after the scan attempting to click on anything in the window causes a crash. I have tried disconnecting/ reconnecting Ethernet cables. Considering rolling back to 2018.3 Any help greatly appreciated Paul

Re: 2018.4 Woes
Wipe the lot and reinstall Pro Tools (inc the C24), reset the C24.
Obviously check your windows 10 is clean, tweaked and performing well. I keep a freshly set up win 10 pro, with reg/service tweaks/useless stuff removed, PT + Plugs set up as a disk image on another drive so can be back to 'fresh windows with all my DAW stuff' within 5-10 minutes if things get slow/buggy (which is honestly very rare for me - maybe every 2 years? if that) Obviously it could specifically be something with 2018.4, I've stuck with 12 HD for now as it's working rock solid with my D-command and would rather wait a year or so until everything's smooth with 2018 (or 2019) before taking the plunge. Nothing in 2018 is exactly screaming at me right now as essential anyway. Also do you run PT as admin in compat options? I think I had issues in the past with D-Command being seen if not run as admin. Also try disabling IPV6 on your ethernet connection (properties) as I read that can sometimes cause issues with the PT controllers. Just some ideas... |

Re: 2018.4 Woes
Are you running an i7 cpu? If so, try disabling Hyperthreading. This has made a pretty substantial improvement here(was having constant -9093 errors and stops).
