Default Pro Tools 10 HD Trial

Hello,

Can the pro tools 10 HD trial be installed on the same disk as my pro tools 9 system, or do I need to overwrite part [or all] of my pt 9 system?

Thanks for your help!

I know I installed it on a laptop that had 9HD on it and once the demo was over...anytime I tried to open a session it was looking for 10. I had to reinstall 9.

That said, operator error is possible.

No.

You cannot have two installations of Pro Tools on a single computer. Installing a later version of pro Tools on the same OS as an existing one will just clobber a lot of files. You can image or install another OS copy on a separate boot disk partition, boot that and install a different version there. But you need to boot between those two OSes to switch between Pro Tools versions. It is a pity that Pro Tools was not engineered from the beginning to allow this, as some other large/complex programs out there e.g. Adobe Photoshop.

Your best bet is to image or clone your system drive first. Then, when the trial is up, you can restore to what you have now with a minimum of fuss. You would most likely need to uninstall 9.x AND the HD driver, before you can install the new version.
