Default A quick PT 11 install question

Hello guys,

I am looking for your opinions on the best route to go. I recently purchased a new hard drive and Windows 8.1 (full install)

I am currently on a 64bit version of Windows 7 and was going to format my new hard drive, put 8.1 on there, and then load up Protools 11.

The more I think of it, I am wondering why I just shouldn't upgrade Windows 7 to 8.1 on my current drive, then install Protools 11 on my current drive (so not even using the new hard drive I purchased)

The reason I am leaning that way is because I will be surrendering my PT9 license to get PT11/10, so there is no need to really SAVE my current drive that has PT9 on it, in case I need to go back.

So I guess it boils down to
1) is there any downside to upgrade Windows 7 to 8.1? or should I just do an 8.1 full install on a fresh machine
2) is there any downside to upgrade PT9 to Pt11? or again, should I just do a clean PT11 install on a new hard drive

Thanks for your help and opinions. For some reason, I may be overthinking this thing! I just want to get it right and avoid the least amount of downtime.

Thanks!
Keith

if want to run PT 10 (for compatibility reasons) as
co-install with PT 11 , you should stay on win 7 ,

what benefit you want from win 8?

i would never chg the os until im really forced to..

Peter-

Thanks so much for the feedback. I was under the assumption from what I read that there was a performance increase with Win8/64bit and PT11, compared to Win7/64bit and PT11.

If there is not, then yes..makes total sense to just upgrade PT9 to PT11 on my current Win7/64bit machine.
