Default Did anyone else notice?

In the videos of "Elastic Audio" Phil Jackson is using one of the new Mbox Micro PT interface but on his screen he is using PT 7.4 HD.
Is this possible?

The top left corner of the screen on the laptop says
Pro Tools HD 7.4.

Hi,

Le is capable of HD? not sure about the mbox micro though,i thought it was just 48k max!! but the new 003 stuff is HD (Hi Definition)

As for the videos, they most probably dubbed the screen shots later.

one question remains if the mbox mini is cappable of opening a HD session. How does it handle the plugs that have no RTAS vs. such as the MDW EQ ?
besides, will the other HD plugs that have a RTAS version work with that mbox mini ? i mean will the mbox mini open automaticly the TDM plugs as RTAS ?

Hi,

If there is no RTAS version of a plugin available then it will just be greyed out during the LE session, but will re-activate when the session returns to TDM. most other plugs will open as RTAS as long as the versions are matched!!

Hi folks,

The Mbox Micro operates as a standard LE interface, and opens HD sessions just as any LE PT system would, with the LE track count and RTAS plug-in limits.

The video is just a bit of TV "magic".

Sorry for the confusion.

Hi, when you open a HD session on LE, a window comes up that says "the following plug ins were made inactive, would you like to save a [text file] report?" Most people click the default 'no' without thinking. So you see these plugs as "inactive/italizied & greyed out."

If there is an RTAS eqivalent it will sometimes open.

Other times you have to 're-instatiate' the plug by pointing Pro Tools at the deactivated plug in and showing Pro Tools that you have the RTAS version of said 'deactivated plug in' on your system.

It usually then comes in with the proper settings (previously saved)

It seems to depend on whether the plug in is up to date (IE if you had Soundtoys 3.0.1 TDM, and the LE system you're moving to has Soundtoys 3.0 RTAS native, it may not automatically open.)

Also the Music Production Toolkit comes in handy with support for 96 voices on a fast computer with multiple firewire drives connected.

Many people's workflow involves "printing" all their FX & 'cascading submix buses' when leaving an HD rig in case the new system may be LE. This reduces CPU usage & avoids possible ADC issues on LE that on HD would be 'corrected' and on LE not.

Another 'tidbit' is Control + Command click on the track icons (add option & shift for all tracks with their name selected to make active/inactive) 4 modifiers, fun!

Lastly, engineers often do a bounce of their current mix prior to starting 'major overdubs' on LE(& even HD really) as this allows you to run a very low buffer (64 sample buffer) and some plugs for tracking with 'minimal' cpu / dsp usage.

The computer works much less hard and reduces the 'lock-up OR crash' during important 'time pressed' talent overdub OR dialog replacement senario by 100 fold!

Hope this makes sense, sheds some light, on inter-platform protocols/workflows & perhaps someone else will chime in with more 'caveats' concerning moving back and forth from HD to LE.

Best ;-)

Walt
