Default Numeric entry?

Haven't used pro tools for a while:

How do you enter numerical values for such things as fader level, pan values, clip gain etc. Seems impossible to enter accurate values without this.

This does not appear to work like other DAWs where I just double-click.

You can, actually. I just checked, because I very seldom need it.
In the "floating fader-window", not mix or edit windows. Pan and volume numbers can be clicked and numbers entered.

That's good to know and mea culpa I guess. There are many occasions when I would find that useful but I didn't realize the option was available in the floating fader winder. Not sure why not in the edit or mix windows themselves but at least it's something.

How bizarre, especially when Pro Tools is so clicky-clicky /king of key commands ...

In particular, so there is no way to enter numerical values for clip gain, really?

This is as fiddly as hell with that micro fader (yes, am aware of the function key to supposed give more resolution), plus that's no real way to do gain staging. In Nuendo I can just enter -3, -4.5, etc & across multiple clips.

You're welcome.

Not that I've found. Want one.

Clip gain line can be dragged on all selected clips at once.

The term "gain staging" gets used in a lot of different ways these days. Not sure which you mean. Literal gain staging (ensuring that each gain stage is happening in the amplifier's most efficient range) is not terribly relevant inside Pro Tools in these days of floating point processing and mixing. But many analog-modeled plugins do sound cleaner if they're not pushed too hard, and that could mean lowering the gain of clips that were recorded by people who hold on to the myth of "using all the bits."

Ha yeah - if I'm working with imported files that people have exported from Logic etc, one of my (many) keyboard maestro shortcuts is reducing every file/clip by 10dB before I even start doing any other secretarial work.
